Need Help Upgrading My Dust Extractor.

Thanks. The plant I used to work in had Donaldson Torit downdraft sanding tables and booths that were used for metal sanding. I'm well familiar with the pulses during the cleaning cycle. Sounds like shotguns being fired every few minutes. The office staff whined about it so they restricted it to...

Need Help Upgrading My Dust Extractor.

Little question about the filters. Are they meant to flow the air from the outside in or inside out like the hobby machines? Reason for asking is most industrial filters are meant to flow from the outside in so if they have layers to the fabric and the first one sheds the dust a little easier...

Need Help Upgrading My Dust Extractor.

I've been camping or I would have replied sooner. The ClearVue cyclone with a 1950CFM rating has a 5hp motor using a 16" diameter, 6 blade backward inclined impeller and is meant to draw through 8" ducting. Their 1450CFM cyclones use a 15" impeller and a 6" duct. ClearVue is the Pentz designed...

    Attic hoist / elevator design

My friends father in law wanted a dumbwaiter in his new house so they made it. Garage door tracks and rollers guided it and an electric winch did the lifting. They had microswitches set up so that both doors had to be closed to operate for safety. It's been running for at least 20 years taking...

    Planer/thicknesser problem solved (almost)

I would pop the hoods, sorry...bonnets, of a number of newer cars and see how much the belts deflect to get you in the ball park and go with that. Pete Nice machine by the way.

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

Hope your finger heals quickly Doug. It does illustrate that something can happen even when you have done it countless times before. In this instance you weren't paying as much attention as you normally would. Same stuff happens to people when actually cutting with more dire consequences. First...

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

The American way has been the North American way of working since the beginnings of powered saws. Tools that came with any kind of safety attachments like crown guards were usually pulled off and tossed then the tool was bought. They never mandated and adopted safer standards and work practices...

    Any Snap-on experts on here

Flying haggis You scored a good tool. I will probably be off by myself here in that as good as the quality of a Snap-On ratchet is I am not crazy about using them. The smooth handle is slippery when my hands are oily which is often when I need it. I have a Canadian Snap-On 70M 1/4 drive...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

To add to what Michael just said. To turn off the AIM you have to use both hands so it isn't something you can absentmindedly turn off when you reach for the switch when using it normally. Pete

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

The local high school where our woodturning and woodworking clubs conduct meetings in the evenings replaced the 5 or so saws (Wadkin, Rockwell and General) with SawStops a few years ago. I don't know it it was insurance driven change or just a cautious school board. All the students taking shop...

    Attention all wet shavers

I shave my face and head in the shower and that keeps my blades clear of gunk between the blades. I also just use the same bar of soap I wash the rest of me with. If it doesn't give me a rash in the sensitive areas it won't on my face unless the blade is dull and ripping rather than cutting...

    The best portable table saw?

Well you could always wait a year or two when a certain controversial American company releases European/British versions of their saws with the hotly debated safety feature. Festool also was working on one with that feature that might already be on the market. They are good saws with few...

Need some sanity checking on slightly unusual shed floor build

I think it is overly complicated. I would have made the 4 stud walls with the bottom 2x4 laying flat on the pavers. Another 2x4 down the middle on the flat too. Joists laid on top of the bottom plates and fastened to the sides of the studs. Shed on top of the walls. Membrane under the 2x4s that...

    Makita 2012nb shelix upgrade

For the motor remove the belt and see what it feels like when you rotate it by hand. Then turn it on and listen to the motor. If no louder than a router you can probably eliminate it. Before putting the belt back on rotate the cutterhead by hand and see if you can feel any roughness or drag etc...
