    Tip Speed - a discussion

Where you are going is what in metal machining are feeds and speeds. For any given material and tool there is an optimum setting to get the maximum material removal rate or maximum tool life. Office build

Plant I worked in had a big near flat EPDM or similar black roof. The seagulls were damaging it by dropping clams and mussels in an attempt to break the shells. They thought the big black expanse was pavement. Every year the roof would get a few leaks from the activity. Sorry for the diversion...

    Extractor ducting

I have haven't I? 😉 The rectangular duct does cause more friction but it is minimal. Play with this calculator and you will see that a 4" round duct, 400CFM, over 30' has a water column loss of 2.742". Same cross sectional area in a square duct of 3.54" has a loss of 2.9". Correction. That...

    Extractor ducting

It is pretty much impossible to generate enough dust in a home system to have an explosion. The minimum threshold of dust in the air for an explosion is 60g/m3 which resembles a very heavy fog. Below that and nothing will ignite it and at a certain point above where it won't ignite either. A...

Can you adapt a fixed base dedicated AUK router to UJK Axminster router lift

Depending on the diameter of the AUK you may be able to put it in a fixed router base and put it in the lift you have with minimal modification. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-1617EVSPK-4-Horsepower-Variable-Collets/dp/B00005RHPD?th=1 Pete The Bosch body diameter is 3.5" / 88.9mm I can't find...

Motor choice for Wadkin AGS10 restoration

The one upside, not mentioned so far to using a VFD, is that you can program them for a slow start over a few seconds. That eliminates the starting surge that the single phase motor has. Good for a shop without a lot of excess power. Pete

Will Lie Nielsen ever make a 5 1/2 bronze plane.....?

Given that it is on one of the Cites lists they might want to steer clear of it for image reasons even if they found old stock they could use. Pete

Thread direction of a tote, why?

Finish making it and give it a real life test by using it. Then you will know for sure. If it fails again at some point down the road you can remake it. Keep the original around as a pattern if you ever need it. Pete

Ways to cut beyond table saw capacity?

As long as the waste edge is parallel to the edge you want to cut run it against the fence. If the edge isn't parallel and there is room on the waste side, tack a straight piece to it and run it against the fence. If there isn't much room along the waste to safely use nails/screws to attach a...

    Union Jubilee advice

If the motor is a 440V 3phase Y motor an electrical motor repair shop can take it apart enough to change a few wires around making it into a 240V 3phase 𝝙 motor that you can run off a 240 single phase to three phase VFD. A good industrial electrician can do the same if you know one. Residential...
