    New House, New Workshop Build.

You could put an industrial roll up door on the outside for security, perhaps the mechanism in the soffits to hide them and another insulated rollup inside. Least intrusion into the workspace that way and double hard for crooks to get through. Another option is the same industrial rollup outside...

If your architect uses scissor trusses you don't need ridge beams as they span from one side to the other. Your roof shapes may make full use of them more complicated. My shop has them and the external pitch is 4/12 and inside closer to 3/12 pitch. They are also lighter and can be placed on the...

    Joke Thread III

Didn't juxtapose it. Just did it after and bolded it to show I can do it but not easily. Not a biggy since I doubt I'll be needing it any time soon. Maybe. ¿Stewert? 😉 Pete

    What's this then

Pabs the way you learn is often forgetting to do something and working with what you have to fix it. When you don't have the benefit of first hand instruction by someone knowledgeable playing with tools to see what you can do with them is educational too. Keep playing and above all enjoy. Pete

    Epoxy Resins

There are no standard tapers for the tangs of woodworking tools so tapered drills for them weren't made. Blacksmith would make the tool and the woodworker would make and fit their own handles unless the blacksmith burned in the tangs. When industrial manufacturing came along the manufacturer...

Looking for a tap of a certain variety

Look for 4 point or 8 point sockets. They will fit the end of a tap. https://www.amazon.ca/Stanley-Proto-J52109-5-piece-8-point/dp/B01H2YWI4C/ref=sr_1_9?crid=1K1Y2FJNUL0H7&keywords=8+point+socket&qid=1681679942&s=hi&sprefix=8+point+socket%2Ctools%2C208&sr=1-9 Harder to find but you can get...

    Hi from Ontario, Canada

I was joking Dave. I would never expect anyone to waltz up and give me a vise. As for LV, they only made around a thousand Tuckers if that and today they command $2,000 and up if you can find one. Metal working, I only have a 4" Record bench vise and a couple 4" Kurt machinist vises for the...

    Hi from Ontario, Canada

Welcome to the forum Dave. Should you be tight on space you could send me a pattern makers vice, especially a Tucker, and I'll keep it nice and dry in my heated shop for you. 😇 Pete

    top slide / compound slide

I was going to suggest putting the X/Y table you have on a rotary table but a quick look found 6"/150mm ones were 80mm and thicker, so too high. Then I came across a rotary/cross slide table in one. It would do what you want and be handy if you ever got a milling machine too. You might find...

    Epoxy Resins

The only thing you need to do is provide an avenue for excess epoxy to squeeze out when you put it together just like we do when using dowels. A small groove along the steel or handle (easier), a deeper hole to have a space for the glue or a small drilled hole out the side (ugly). Too much glue...

    What's this then

baldkev. Little known fact is our dentists can supply specialty dentures. Like flat top ones for chewing hides to make them soft. Popular with the native community. :) Hole punch ones for gasket making. Mechanics love those. Woodworkers can get beaver choppers.🦫 They have little blades with...

    Epoxy Resins

I would use an adhesive epoxy. Araldite is a brand that should be easy to find. Coating epoxy resin would be what you look for when you want a thick finish on a bar top or live edge table. By thick I mean 2mm to 6 mm thick. Casting epoxy is for river tables etc. Pete.

    Acrylic - steel wool?

Doing a search for steel wool grit equivalents got a bunch of hits. Here are a couple. https://www.finewoodworking.com/forum/steel-wool-compared-to-sand-paper https://www.craftywoodsmith.com/steel-wool-vs-sandpaper/ You are best working with the micro mesh (what you stated range is) or...

I know you are in France and if you take a little time and search you can find the same stuff directly from China where it is made, Alibaba, Aliexpress and Banggood. You need to play with the search phrases as what works here are a little different there. Besides I thought the OP hangs his hat...
