Why can't I buy z-clips or Figure 8 Fasteners in Ireland?!?

Try calling Lee Valley customer service and ask what their shipping/mailing charges will be to you. Toss in a tool or two while you are at it. 😉 https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/customerservice...

    Cracked solar panel.

Have you considered seeing if the crack can be repaired? I wonder if the process, or at least the resin, use to fill windshield (windscreen to you) stone chips might fix the panel. One of the automotive glass companies in your area might be able to answer the question. They might also do it to...

    American pork chop planer guard

Nice shop or would playground be a better description? There are definitely advantages to a big jointer that I would love to have but I'll have to make do with my Hitachi combination toy. Besides my shop is above the garage and your big machines would work with gravity to land on our cars. Pete

    American pork chop planer guard

My 1980s Japanese planer jointer (side by side rather than over under) has a pork chop guard. It is 6" on the jointer side and the pork chop works well. I added a knob to the top left corner to allow me to pull it open for when I want to lower a bowed board to flatten it, one half at a time...

Cedar strip canoes are done this way. Lots of companies sell router bit sets to do it with. Same principal in a smaller scale. Pete

    Large garden planter design

I made 6 veggie planters 4'x8'x2' high out of treated 2"x4" and 3/4" treated plywood, open to the ground. To line the planters and keep the pressure treatment away from our food I lined them with the Dimplex plastic used around foundations which keeps them dry by allowing the water to drain...

Dining Room Carver Chairs - Take 2

If you are putting wedges in do some test samples to see if one is more prone to splitting than the other. If no different than I prefer the look of the grain across the short dimension of the slot rather than along. Pete

Dining Room Carver Chairs - Take 2

Derek did you give any consideration to making the seat to leg joints along the lines that Sam Maloof used with screws? As far as I know the joints have been proven to hold up long term. Pete

Off the top of my head you, like us, have universal health care where Americans are on a private profit system. Hopefully not the main reason. One of the things the OP will have to calculate is the cost of shipping the weight and volume of these tools and possible storage if a home isn't ready...

The UK doesn't have any 110V so you would have to have a transformer to change the 220V to 110V unless the motors on your machines are dual voltage motors. Pete

Keep in mind if you swap out a 60Hz motor for a 50Hz motor in your dust collector you'll get a 20% drop in airflow. I believe you can get transformers that step up the 50Hz current to 60Hz so you wouldn't need to change anything on your machines. Other forum members are better able to answer...

Grizzly sell sliders from 10" to 14" blades. Asian made I believe. https://www.grizzly.com/table-saws There are no tool manufacturers except for Williams and Hussey and Woodmaster. Both selling planer molders. All went under when the Asians made cheap import machines available here. Lots of CNC...

    Bench grinding wheels

Chris the wheel in the picture looks like a diamond wheel. I think it is a resin bond type, reddish brown and would usually be used on carbide tooling. For the longest life they would have been cooled with a mist or flood coolant. I don't know if it would be suitable for grinding TIG electrodes...

Sheartak Spiral Cutter Heads for Sedgwick

You have it wrong. The US uses the same electric as Canada. 😉 We for the most part don't have the space constraints as the UK and Europe so your planer thicknesses and combination machines were never all that popular. We favoured separate machines. They have only been gaining a little...

What size for dust extract flexible hose ?

The two 45º fittings have somehow gained traction through repetition to become fact. It is not true in every case. The Americans do duct loss calculations by giving equivalent straight duct ratings to the fittings and add them all up. As far as I know you folks have calculation methods but...
