    Lathe thread form?

For the most part lathes made in the last 10 years if not more will be using a 60º thread form. Unless the Axminster is very old I doubt it would have 55º threads. Would you have the model number of the lathe so it can babe looked up? Pete

    Heavy hoe wanted.

Handle won't be as long (same as a pickaxe) but a mattock works for that sort of thing. Pete

    Needing a new plane iron for a 5 1/2

Hock was purchased by Lee Valley and they have the blades in stock. You likely have the O1 material. How others compare, I can't say. https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/tools/hand-tools/planes/blades/115589-hock-hcs-o1-bench-plane-blades?item=19P2025 You could consider their Veritas blades...

    Elliptical Turning

Welcome to the forum Moez. Don't put your personal information like email or phone numbers on forums. You can end up with a lot of junk that way. Put your mouse cursor over his name and start a conversation, private message. That way he will be the only one to see it. Pete

Need advice for dismantling shaft and searching for bearings for Kity 637

I have no proof but believe the pulley might be threaded onto the shaft. Know anyone with an Xray machine? Pete

Need advice for dismantling shaft and searching for bearings for Kity 637

There is no screw in the end of the shaft. It is rotary broached to make a hex in the end of the shaft to hold it for whatever reason. You can see the little "petals" of metal pushed into the bottom of the hex. Drill the end of the shaft and it is pooched. Pete

    Home library

I would make the shelves that are long with the solid edging across front and back of the shelfs rather than Domino the backs. It would allow for adjustments and any books you can place on the shelf have to clear the lip across the front will clear the same across the back. Pete

Maybe the charger 50hertz 220V on your side of the pond vs our 60hertz 110V power. If there isn't a charger with it then never mind. Pete

    Strange OSB3 and fibreglass roofing

There is OSB sold here about 11mm thick meant for roofs of houses. It has a side that has a pressed or rolled textured surface a little like corrugations. It is installed rough side up to provide some traction for those working on it. It is also printed with lines on a 16" and 24" grid to aid...

    Rats in a trap...

My parents immigrated after WW2 from Europe. Most of my mother's family being exterminated in the final solution. They were considered no better than rats too. I'm not a mongrel. I'm a monkey. Pete

    Rats in a trap...

All the people that crossed the Bearing Sea land bridge during the last Ice Age that populated all the regions of North, Central and South America. They did it all without horses so I guess the foot race with a some paddling would be a pretty close approximation. Pete

    Helping out a family member

We just had an estimate to paint one bedroom and a dozen doors for our basement. That is with me removing all the doors and hardware to be taken down the road so he can spray them. I'll also be doing all the filling of the trim gaps and brad nail holes, removing the light fixtures and curtain...

New or old vintage drawknife ?

You must be a little guy to fit in that airplane. I'm in agreement with using spokeshaves however for a one off project like this (unless you plan of doing more shaped work) coarse sandpaper wrapped around sticks, dowels or any other handy shape will do the job this time. If you really want a...

    Finish over ebonized oak

I used a similar process for my oak. Liberon or Bulldog Steel wool in Cleaning Vinegar, 6%, strongest I could find locally, Pickling Vinegar is supposed to be up to 10%. I held it under the vinegar with old steel spikes and agitated it every day for about a week until there was no more...

    Finish over ebonized oak

Any finish you put on the Oak is going to change it from blue to black. All the oil wax finishes have a yellow to them that when on the Oak makes it become a black. Maybe one of the water clear water based spray finishes might keep it closer to the blue/black you want to keep. Make a few test...

    Panelling/Skirting board Question!

The wife wanted to put up a feature wall in the bedroom she sleeps in during the day (nurse) and will be paining it all a black. 😳 It is the same as I did in the adjacent bathroom with the exception that the top (dado, plate rail) is 4"/100mm higher. Standing back and looking into both rooms you...
