Are Ryobi power tools any good?

I suspect that the problem with the adaptor is called Rutlands. Sometime ago I bought a set of chuck jaws which supposedly would fit Record Power SC4 chucks . Only one actually fitted.They were a bargain price. I should have known better. I have not bought anything else from them.

Another sad event. Poor lad, one of our Woodturning community who made a fatal mistake. A recently watched a Youtube video, ‘Woodturning Oct 2022 Urn failure’, that demonstrates very powerfully the need to wear adequate face shields. D.

Is the chuck sticking as you wind it on, that is, it gets to one point on the spindle and won’t go any further, but can be unscrewed? If that is the case, it suggests that the the spindle thread at the sticking point is damaged. You may need a replacement spindle. D.

Welcome aboard, Diver. Take your time looking for a lathe, and widen your search to manufacturers other than Axminster ( who know how to charge for all things Woodturning) . I suggest you look at Record Power who produce some very good lathes, and also have a look at Simon Hope’s website...

Tris rightly says that RP chucks can use other chuck jaws. However, my recent experience with Nova jaws (see ‘Stepped jaws’ on this forum) makes me wonder about them. D.

Cheers, guys. It’s a mystery why they state these very precise maximum rpms for their jaws. An even bigger mystery is why they quote maximum rpm for FACEPLATES both in expansion and contraction. How does that work? ..... I think I might drop them a line.. D.

Hi Guys, I’m looking to get stepped chuck jaws. All my chucks are Record Power SC4. Record don’t seem to do stepped jaws, so is it possible to use the Nova stepped jaws on the RP SC4? D.

Matt, Any luck with Snainton’s? I’d be very surprised if they haven’t been able to help. I’ve always had great service from them. It’s a pity they are closing down soon. D.

Simon Hope sells a professional carbide hollowing tool, that would probably be long enough ( it’s 560mm/ 22inches in length). The downside is that it costs £69 ppp. Still, once bought it will be available for your next project.
