    Swivel head lathe recommendations pls

Great clock, Jonzjob. Did you make all the cogs and what-have-you as well? D.

    Gorilla glue

Thanks, guys. Seems like I'm not the only one who’s had problems with this stuff. On balance, I think the advice to use something else is the route to go. Save a lot of cursing and shouting!

    Gorilla glue

Cheers, Novocaine I’ll try that squeeze trick to stop it going off. I know it’s moisture activated, you have to moisten whatever you are gluing before putting it on, and have to be careful how much you use as it expands a lot. Is there anything specific to clean the nozzle with. I’ve always...

    Gorilla glue

Hi Guys, Does anyone have any tips for keeping and using the strong Gorilla glue. I have bought a number of the small squeeze bottles, and have always ended up chucking them away. I have found the glue solidifies in the bottle and/or glues the top on. I opened a new bottle yesterday, and the...

    Marking work

Thanks for more great ideas, guys. I like the twisted staple Richard uses. I could probably twist some wire into a D, and try that. I don’t know how I would add the wood type. I like Jonzjob pyrography. It would solve the marking problem, and also open up decorative possibilities as well...

    Marking work

Thanks, guys. Some great ideas. I’ve seen on You Tube a woodturner in Canada (Sprague Woodturning) signing his work with a pen. He always says that what it is ‘is given in the information below’. It’s never there, or at least I can’t find it. I had some stick on labels made, but a) they don’t...

    Marking work

Hi Guys, I’ve been trying to decide how best to mark my work, i.e sign it, and name the wood it’s made from. I’ve tried Sharpies on unfinished pieces, but the ink tends to soak in and spread. Finished pieces that are waxed and polished won’t accept any Sharpie type marking. Anyone got any good...

Longworth style bowl chucks - any experience?

I have a commercially produced Longworth style chuck of the sort minilathe showed which I use only occasionally. I find it a bit unwieldy, and agree with Chas that actually putting a bowl in the jaws would be easier if you had 3 hands. I think, however, it is important to recognise that these...

    Pen Kits

I’ve always used Taylor’s of Mirfield, and found their kits to be good quality. They have always been very helpful as well, and i’m sure they would consider a possible discount on as large an order as you are thinking of placing. D.

    Sharpening....

T Given my relative lack of experience in woodturning, I hesitate to tread in what seems to have been a recurrent forum minefield, but I can only describe what has worked for me. When I started turning about four years ago, I sharpened my tools using a normal bench grindstone. I say ‘sharpened’...

    Here’s to turning in 2020

Terrific, Chas. Your work is really something to aspire to. I wish I could produce stuff like that. Are they all segmented pieces? D

    Forstner bits

Thanks, guys It seems that, as with all things, you get what you pay for. Thanks for the pointers to brands, and for the general advice to buy one offs as the need arises, rather than buying sets. I can’t find anywhere that sells Oddbods ‘rabid beavers on a stick’ for use in the rougher end of...

    Forstner bits

Hi guys Can anyone recommend a good quality maker of Forstner bits. Over time I have bought a few boxed sets from the likes of Screwfix etc, but have always been disappointed with them. They are ok for a few uses but then become next to useless. Resharpening doesn’t seem to improve them. D
