    Decorative option?

Hi Pete I’ve had a look at chatter work spin tops. As you say, there are lots of examples of highly decorated, colourful tops. What colouring medium has been used is not revealed, and the YouTube bits do not explain it, being ‘tasters’ for a fully explanatory dvd that is for sale. Best wishes D

    Decorative option?

Thanks Adam and Wood and Stuff. I know you, Adam, have very successfully used paint and other stuff in decorating some of your pieces . Sharpies do come in a variety of colours, so, if they stick, it opens up a new approach to decoration. Wood and Stuff, thanks for your interest, and for taking...

    Decorative option?

Hi Guys, Has anyone ever used permanent markers (eg. Sharpies) to decorate wood. Sharpies claim that their markers can be used on wood, but I wonder whether they would bleed, and just how permanent ‘permanent’ is. D.

    Wire types

Thanks, guys. Jelly, can you specify particular HRc value wire from suppliers? I think the process you suggest is a bit beyond me, but thanks for the suggestion. AES. Every month, Woodturning magazine has this on the contents page: ‘Woodturning is an inherently dangerous pursuit....’ I think...

    Wire types

Thanks, guys. I am a comparatively inexperienced woodturner, and I have recently wanted to decorate my creations in various ways. I have used wire burning on the exterior of bowls, but have wondered about doing the same on the rims or interior of bowls. My fellow turners on this site have...

    Polishing textured wood.

Hi Richard I have a few brushes, paint and tooth, which I use for similar reasons. I tried them with the texture band, but, for some reason, they didn’t help. I think they might not have been stiff enough. Best wishes D.

    Polishing textured wood.

Hi Guys, I have been getting to grips with my Sorby texturing kit, and have encountered a problem. I put a textured strip around a beech bowl (see photo). The problem relates to finishing the bowl. Anyone any tips for polishing the textured bit. I’ve applied my usual finish, Hampshire Sheen, but...

    Tool chest

Terrific craftsmanship. I very much admire these old fashioned chests, where everything has a place, and there is a place for everything. In the great age of handcrafted cabinet making, these chests (often works of art in their own right) were made by individual craftsmen, and kept in their...
