Help with Sorby texturing and spiralling tool.

Hi Guys, My wife bought me the Sorby texturing and spiralling set for my birthday. I have used the large texturing wheels on on a few bowls with mixed results, some good, some bad. This weekend I decided to use the small texturing wheels on a narrow strip around a bowl. The instructions with the...

    Rose Engine Rosettes

Well, Bob, I’ve looked at the videos and read all the comments, and now know that Faberge used a rose engine to make his signature guilloche enamelling or something, but I’m still baffled as to what ii’s all about. Are rosettes the plastic discs with variously slotted rims some people are making...

PPE for turning - concerns over the PAPR masks

I’ve got the JSP Power Cap IP .It does what it says on the tin . The only criticism/problem i’ve had is that one of the (rather flimsy) battery clips broke off, meaning that it now attaches to the helmet by a single clip. If that breaks....it’s a new battery at £80. Like Delboy, I have had one...

    Bowl problem

Thanks Pete and Phil. I’ve used Milliput for bowl decorating. It’s really good stuff. I think I might take up your suggestion and use it as a fix for this. I’ve never used resin, although i’ve seen it used for inlay work, and, to be honest, I wouldn’t know where to start with it for a problem...

    Bowl problem

Cheers, Greg. When I started, the blank just had a dark mark on the edge of one side. Because of that, I decided to use that side as the base of the bowl... Good job I didn’t decide to use it as the bowl face. I haven’t got any epoxy glue, so I’ll have to send for some. Using it as a feature...

    Bowl problem

Hi Guys, I’ve part turned the base of a beech bowl, but have hit a snag. Quite a deep crack has appeared on the outside edge. (Photo attached) .I’ve soaked it in super glue, and rubbed a bit of sawdust in it, but it doesn’t look good. I could turn it way, I suppose, but i’m not sure how deep it...

    Skewed

Hi Adam I know what you mean. I’ve had similar problems. I have a Sorby Proedge, which comes with a jig for skew sharpening. Even that poses problems. It works well when sharpening one edge (when the tool handle is to the right), but when it’s reversed , the handle is fouled somewhat by the...

    Workshop cleaning.

Can anyone recommend a cordless hand held vac for use in a workshop? I have a corded Henry vac that is very good for major clean ups, but a bit bulky and cumbersome for one off bits of cleaning, eg shifting sandings from lathe bed etc. I have looked at Amazon, Curry’s etc, but the reviews of...

Thanks Robbo and Paul Some great ideas. I like the use of the flowers, although I wonder how long the colouring would last. D.
