    Hardwood you could definitely go down to 30mm. I agree 500mm deep would be a better depth tbh.

    No I have built a couple out of pine to those dimensions I usually taper legs to 1" to give a finesse to the legs. I also put a drawer in the rail as a feature. My tops are usually 1" but tapered to 1/2" over 2". Which is where my legs rails fix

    Using expensive materials with cheap labour is asking for trouble. Using cheaper materials which are more forgiving, with cheap labour makes more sense.

    How about a octagon frame under and the table top floating on top, only the middle of the stave screwed down. The gaps can be clauked with yacht deck clauking. Perhaps rasing the room temp a bit so the oak is dry before reducing it and standing a bowl of water nearby? Or just do it during a dry...

    I think the market has turned since COVID and many people are going back to foreign holidays. On our small lodge site in north Devon there must 6 on the market ATM which is unheard of... Sykes take 20% Cleaners £120 (which in winter can be half your takings) So I would suggest you use Abnb...

    You could but you would need to rake shallow passes perhaps 6mm each and so it will take forever and you'll need a few batteries!
