    Allen Socket Screws

Totally agree. The phrase “Jam Packed” has been around for many decades until it was reported on the news some years ago about passengers on a train “Ram Packed” 😆

    Allen Socket Screws

An awful lot of people make up their own names for stuff if that don’t know what it is. The Americans are particularly fond of doing this. 😉 Wood turners are also pretty good at mis naming stuff but some manufacturers don’t help.

    Allen Socket Screws

I’ve got boxes of machine screws and I reckon 50% of them are only partially threaded. Very very rare that I’ve needed anything over about 30mm long that had to be fully threaded. A die helps in these circumstances.

Yes its a chisel but whats it for and called?

It does look similar but a bit too large.

    Motor Speed Controller

The minimum speed is too fast for what I want to use it for.

    Motor Speed Controller

I’ve just read these sort of things are only for single speed routers so not suitable for a variable speed one. I wanted to reduce the speed on my T4 a bit but I’m not sure this will do the job?

    Motor Speed Controller

Anyone tried one of these with a Router? I just want to be able to slow my Trend T4 down a little. I must say I’m not all that enamoured about the multi style outlet on this particular model but there are others.

    Electric vehicles

This popped up a couple of days ago. It’s not news to me as this has been suggested before, along with heart and lung disease. They should have brought the ICE ban forward for Diesel cars, not put it off for another five years. Plenty of perfectly good petrol cars out there, which whilst not...

    VED

I bought my current car at the end of 2016 so I’d not heard of this before.

    VED

Just been out for a meal with a mate and he was telling me about Vehicle Excise Duty rates. Cars with a list price of over £40K sold after 2017 currently incur an extra £390 on top of the standard rate of VED on years 2 to 6. VED rates are due to go up in April this year and again in 2025. He’s...

This is American data but I expect it’s similar over here?

a new era of low cost, accessible and efficient heating?

I’m sceptical as well when it comes to heating, at least for the UK. I know Scandinavian houses have better insulation and maybe electricity is cheaper but air source heating seems to be working for them...

Suggestions for a woodworking lathe tool set for a beginner

My advice would be to start on some spindle work before venturing into cross grain work like bowls. I’d therefore suggest a spindle rouging gouge, 10mm spindle gouge and a parting tool. I’d also look at joining a local club if you can, someone might have some tools you could buy. Some new...

    Diamond Belt sticks against plate?

Agreed. The top of the knife platen has the upper and lower edges angled downwards in relation to the belt, hence my earlier comment.

    Diamond Belt sticks against plate?

Looking at Troyboys second picture that doesn’t appear to be the case. It looks like the standard platen to me? Troyboy, all you need to do is remove the side cover and belt, loosen the two bolts with a spanner and see if the platen will move back a little bit.

    Diamond Belt sticks against plate?

If the Sorby Pro Edge is anything like the Axminster Ultimate edge then you should be able to adjust the position of the platen. Edit: I’ve just looked at a YouTube video of a Pro Edge in action and taken a screen shot. As you can see, the Platen, or back plate as Sorby call it, is slightly...
