    No Fault Evictions

I wouldn't choose to live on the backs of my neighbours.

Sounds like a very bad investment. I'd sell up if I were you. Oh wait a minute - you will probably make a massive capital gain if you just hang on a bit longer.

Bosch Shredder - Last chance saloon?

There's a Which report here. Makita UD2500 comes out top. I'm tempted - it says 40mm OK. But anything bigger would be good for the woodstove so that's OK https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/garden-shredders/article/how-to-buy-the-best-garden-shredder-ahQP91O2Xm4h

    No Fault Evictions

Councils, not-for-profit housing associations and variations thereof. Always a role for the private renter of course, but only if much better controlled and regulated than now. The system has failed and the blame is inadequate government housing policy. The free-market can't do it, as is...

Saw blade thickness and safe handling

Agree. I could just about put an 8x4' over my combi machine with extra long sliding table plus extension, but it is not easy. A much bigger panel saw is one answer if you've got the space, much simpler is Doug's track saw. In fact I think it's time I bought one!

    No Fault Evictions

That's good! A pity it isn't done more often - but local authorities have been deliberately underfunded for years, to render them powerless and allow the economic jungle of "free-market" economics to spread. Just been reading "Debt, The First 5000 Years" by the late great David Graeber. He has...

Why you need a well cambered blade on a No7

Forgot to add: the one big overriding benefit of a cambered plane blade is that it enables finer planing, and on more difficult wood. This is because as you retract it you also reduce the effective width. Taking a very fine but narrow shaving becomes much easier with less likelihood of tear out...

Bosch Shredder - Last chance saloon?

OK ta I'll bear that in mind. Isn't 40mm a bit on the big side for it? But trimming small stuff off a branch with an axe leaves the bigger stuff behind for the stove. It's all down to how much you have to deal with.

Bosch Shredder - Last chance saloon?

I'm reclaiming a garden and was wondering about a shredder for all the small stuff, hedge cuttings and small tree thinnings-out but got the firm impression that unless you paid over £500 they were pretty useless. Instead I've taken to chopping stuff by hand, on a nice end grain stump. Small...

    Tissue for lathe work

Yes thats it. All workshops need to have some old rags on hand and a lot of things benefit from a quick rub down with an oily rag. Natural fibres better, synthetic not so absorbent.

Ive done my time son, dont you worry about that.

Strange thread! TBH I thought that organ was fairly grotesque - somehow reminded me of old ladies underwear, pink and beige, over decorated. A stark reminder that design is king, whatever the craft skill involved. It's just the box, more important by far are the pipes and other stuff inside.

Why you need a full length well in your work bench.

Have you tried a yard brush?

Why you need a full length well in your work bench.

But it's for holding all the crap when you are on the job, instead of having it getting in the way on the bench top! Also it's much easier to maintain it as a flat bench when you only have to plane the front beam and the back apron upstand, to get them in line.

    Mortise & Tenon

It's a bodge, not least because you often have to test with a reversible dry fit first. In any case it'd have to be an accurate tight fit, which if you can manage at all you might as well go for an accurate push fit to start with.

Why you need a full length well in your work bench.

About 2". Not deep enough for a plane but good for t'other stuff. The bottom board lifts out if required, which is quite useful for some purposes - can clamp things in different ways etc. I think of it as a vastly improved version of the MFT. Basically this design but with a deeper well:

    workshop electrics

Thanks for replies. Off to Wales today will follow up when I get back. The cable itself is about 15mm dia. My usage will be very intermittent in terms of full load - no mass production just odds and ends. So maybe it'll do as it is which would be good.

    Shooting board woes

I made a shooting board years ago when I was making a lot of small boxes (6" cube for jackinaboxes in fact) and it was a bit useful, but found I never needed it when I started doing more real joinery and furniture. You've missed the point again! Given a sharp edge 30º the shape of the bevel...
