That's probably why they didn't catch on; end-grain planes easily with a sharp enough typical jack plane and in any case chopping blocks are generally straight grained (cheaper, easier to make, work well).

Why not just link to the article instead of getting it slightly garbled? https://skepticalscience.com/co2-lags-temperature.htm Drop them a line if you are "unconvinced"? NB caution with the website - it is "skeptical", not of the science but of general climate change scepticism. Could be missed...

Don't know where you get your misinformation from but he backed off on his earlier "pledges" and is not doing enough. If it's the Mail, Telegraph or similar you should stop reading them, they fill peoples' heads with ****.

They'll glad to receive his corrections - if he gets his thesis out soon enough he could be in for the Nobel prize!

Lo Looking on the bright side - it won't be back to the stone age, there'll be plenty of scrap lying about so it'll be the scrap iron age. Some basic metal work skills could come in handy! And woodworking - it's carbon negative and sequestered in wooden items for as long as they last. Have to...

"Net zero" means no increase in CO2 levels. Achieved by reducing emissions until they are balanced by CO2 take-up; basically by reforestation and other organic methods. CO2 capture technology gets mooted but looks like a non starter, in view of the quantities involved. If we can hit net zero...

Probably because you haven't visited the parts where the floods happened. A map might help? :ROFLMAO: Do you think the Spaniards think it's too soon to worry? Had to revisit this - you are amazingly out of touch. What you have missed is that sea level rise is accelerating. Failure to adapt is happening now, in many places around the globe, even including Wales! One of the first places in UK which we have already decided we cannot afford to adapt is...

Thatcher? She was unusual as a politician in that she had a science education. Didn't do her (or us) much good over economics or politics though!

So would an LA style handle improve the performance of a Bailey pattern? If not why not? I did buy a low angle jack, can't recall if LV or LN, but found it a PITA - difficult to adjust with an inadequate Norris adjuster and no tilt lever - had to tap the blade with a little hammer! The whole...

But they did not vote for what we eventually got, or failed to get, in this case. MPs are not simply delegates directed to follow instructions. We elect them as our representatives to work on our behalf, which may work against public opinion, may not even be what they promised. The referendum...

Not too keen. Retro revivals - back catalogue designs because they were not popular in the first place and everybody preferred normal Stanley/Bailey, for good reasons. Thick blades harder/slower to take out, replace, sharpen. Really bad for fine adjustment and tilt. Bevel up cutting angle not...

That should include yourself. Your casual dismissal of the issue amounts to climate change scepticism. You should get real and join the many who do "implore them to do something about climate change". I do think your notion that that we have the capacity to mitigate and adapt is very dubious...

AMOC is treated as a North Atlantic phenomenon but is inevitably linked to global currents. Worst forecasts say it could change in decades, not centuries. Massively severe events are happening already. See link already referred to. The main obstacles to reform seems to be the fossil fuel...
