Work so hard you cripple yourself

For some, but many of the hardest working people are the lowest paid. Most high wealth is based on inheritance and not the just deserts of hard work. It does if you have rich daddy and all the privileges which go along with it. If you seriously believe that all poverty and disadvantage is a...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

For some, but not for all. I was running a successful small business in 1979 but had to wind it up, during what became known as Thatcher's first recession. It affected a lot of other businesses - we were not alone and were hit by knock on effects from elsewhere, unpaid invoices, orders...

    US Election November 5th

er - she was democratically elected vice president. Picking up the reins from an obviously struggling Biden, was part of her job. Maybe you didn't know that?

    US Election November 5th

You should just ask google a few questions yourself. You seem fairly confused. ..and picked up many delusions. Your "45m+ migrants" under Biden is nonsense. The figure is nearer 2.5 million apparently, but not an easy calculation so I wouldn't waste your time struggling with the data - you...

Paint spec for renovated sash windows

Linseed oil plus pigments is very traditional and has always been widely used. It's often thought that lead was the critical feature of long lasting paints but it may well be more to do with the linseed oil, or both perhaps. https://www.solventfreepaint.com/info/history_linseed_paint.htm Seems...

Paint spec for renovated sash windows

Basically it sticks like **** to a blanket - on bare wood, old paint, metal, glass, etc etc. It never flakes or peels. Instead it very slowly wears off from the surface and goes chalky. Can be revived very easily with oil alone, or just repainted. Never needs burning off or removing before...

And find themselves with enormous mortgage debts, or paying inflated rents in a "free-market ecomomy" with a house bubble pricing more and more people out of good quality housing, and a massive housing shortage. Really? Have you any links concerning this far fetched idea? See link below...

Don't all human activities have a social function? Yes. When business and finance are seen as somehow separate, or not under democratic control, then society goes in wrong directions.

    Magnifying lens

My eyesight not good - a head torch can also make a big difference - much better than a fixed light. Mines a https://ledlenser.co.uk/collections/rechargeable-head-torches/products/ih5r-rechargeable-head-torch - very adaptable, from night cycling down to fine handiwork

    US Election November 5th

Climate change is the big issue of our time, in fact the biggest ever, and the outcome of this USA election could be extremely relevant. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/01/trump-visits-georgia-denies-climate-crisis-after-hurricane-helene

    US Election November 5th

Seems the climate war was lost in the 2000 US election. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0024cxp Worth listening to again. They do end on an optimistic note. Personally I think it was lost much earlier. There was plenty of warning. Just picked up last weeks New Scientist, also saying it is too...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Labour is and always has been the party of the Unions, or in the wider sense; of the labour movement. A bit weak and feeble at the moment but would be pointless and fade away without the unions. It'd be very dull world without idealism! Or did you mean "ideology"? which is not the same thing at...

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: By "successful" you just seem to mean "wealthy"; there are also many "successful" people who are not particularly wealthy. Can't you answer the question yourself? Maybe you just need to try harder? It wouldn't hurt you to have a go at answering these very simple...

    US Election November 5th

Both. It's a cheap way of having fun if you are skint but can become fiercely addictive. Not such a problem for the well off and/or those not inclined to addiction. Similar problem with alcohol, though much worse than drugs in terms of societal impact.

    US Election November 5th

Easily explained: the USA govt has no intelligent policy over immigration, is ignoring the problem, and the global issues driving it. We have the same problem here with our own feeble government. These things are the direct responsibility of governments. Higher taxes fix issues if spent on...

    "Doppelganger" by Naomi Klein,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppelganger:_A_Trip_into_the_Mirror_World As suggested by @Deadeye - many thanks! Been away for a week and read it. Brilliant book! Covers so much ground, a much bigger picture than just the interminable meanderings of the usual un-woke conspiracy theorists. Now...
