Is this getting a bit out of hand? - RSV jabs

and neither do you but it doesn't stop you having an opinion. However it is well known that vaccines have saved many millions of lives. Evidence? Really? They all say that! You are definitely talking the talk!

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Why would they do that? Union fights were more often about keeping jobs and preventing run-down and closure. It certainly helps if you want to know things. Interesting how the right are so sceptical about information sources and prefer their made up fantasies!

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Started with Thatcher, Unions had no power to stop it. Labour only had a short period in office and Blair was a Thatcherite too in many ways. PFI etc It's more or less 100% down to tory ideology - all the way to Brexit craziness...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Privatised, sold off, insufficient state investment, should have been nationalised. 45 years of tory madness, including Blair and PFI. The crazy thing is various parts of railways, water, power etc and others are now foreign owned by foreign nationalised industries. They were not committed to...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

When ar worra lad, I seem to recall occasionally being loaded with two 1cwt cement sacks off the back of a wagon at a time. Bricks were by hand thrown down in a loose handful side by side to be caught, i.e 3 bricks or more if you could catch them, was it 6 or more? Long time ago.

    Alternative joining method

:ROFLMAO: Agree. I was looking at the dreadful pictures of piles of swept up cars in the Spanish floods. Fantasising about smaller back lanes with piles of smart phones wrecked beyond further use! Nature sweeping out unwelcome human garbage.

    Alternative joining method

Well yes point taken, but I do think there is another element behind the "assisted" methods, which is that they look simple, or obvious, or carefully thought out, or with fancy bits of kit, so that an unconfident person is likely to have more faith and persist longer in making them work...

My Woodwork Journey is about to begin - Total Beginner - I may need your advice.

Nice boxes. I've done similar and yes a bit thicker for the sliding slot. I did sliding tops with hand planed bevels rather than a moulding, it's easier, you make it fit well as you go, and I like the hand done appearance. I did some with exotic odds and ends for tops - bits of pitch pine or...

My Woodwork Journey is about to begin - Total Beginner - I may need your advice.

Yes but it's up to you! Good idea to knock up half dozen boxes for practice. They always come in handy. If you have a table saw then easiest and neatest small box joint is a simple tongue and groove - I made hundreds of 150mm cube boxes with 6mm sides 4mm tops/bottoms, for jackinaboxes. Made as...

10mm fairly hefty at that size. Maybe 6mm? Thinner for tops and bottoms? 10mm is enough for even quite large drawer sides. Main thing is to keep looking at existing stuff and always have a tape measure in your pocket. Get tuned in - guesswork can be miles out!

Work so hard you cripple yourself

1cwt sack was OK on your shoulder if taken from a height i.e. off back of a truck, but not so easy off the floor. We did it all by hand, including loose bricks - pallets hadn't been invented as far as I recall! (1960s)

Me too. Not seen it before. Had a quick speed read and he seems to be casting doubt on socialism as economic "science". Correct me if I'm wrong I'll read it more carefully later. More on the topic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Why_Socialism? Seems that Einstein agrees with me on most things...

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

Possibly not affordable because wages are too low, in some cases non existent - particularly with the unwell who may not be earning anything at all A very unpleasantly cynical view. We shoulder the burden of treating people in need. it's a very old fashioned idea I'm surprised you haven't...

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

Missing the point really. Which is that the public sector health supplies services which the private sector is simply unable to, because it is not profitable and an effective health insurance would cost far more than most can afford. It's not either/or, it's about how to make public services...

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

..not to mention commitment. And the huge accumulation of experience, skill, knowledge ("traditions" in the best sense) acquired over years, if not disrupted by manic right-wing ideology, privatisation, misplaced management shuffling, budget cutting, etc

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

I don't think they did. I think everybody thinks taxation is too low and there are endless calls for wealth taxes etc. It's inevitable in a healthy modern economy - "the price of civilisation" as the saying goes.

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

https://www.texastribune.org/2022/06/16/americans-medical-debt/ Arguably this is not only a health industry issue: The "financialisation" of so much of what we have to do, has the effect of keeping us in debt for life, from inflated house-prices/mortgages/rents, downwards. Echoes of the...
