    Another Ban on the way?

CO2 neutral via carbon cycle. Smoke pollution less severe in low housing density areas. I wonder if there are design or operational improvements which can be made for wood and waste burning? Low tech solutions tend to get overlooked.

    Another Ban on the way?

Maybe so but what I've seen so far it's the whole set-up which looks somewhat vulnerable, if not the machine itself. And it depends on the grid. Fridges seem to work fine for 10 to 15 years but would a heat-pump set-up be so trouble free?

    Another Ban on the way?

A mains electricity failure can hit in minutes and completely disable all high-tech sustainable energy usage - heating, communications, EVs....end of civilisation as we know it, temporarily one hopes! I least I'll be able to fry something and keep warm with my wood-stove!

    Another Ban on the way?

It's a neat futuristic sci fi idea though. I like it! A sort of electric beehive of interconnected activity. I reckon the days of the private car are nearly over. Dramatic scenes on Spanish streets - one of the biggest causes of climate change being swept away before our eyes! This is the future...

People don't cut a tree and then pop off and plant another one. Sustainable forestry is all farmed with virtually zero virgin forest involved.

    Resawing tips

Yes the kerf slot will help. It's a handy way to split a board even if you could do the whole thing on a bandsaw. The slots guide the blade. Main problem you might have is boards cupping as you saw them - can be better to split the sawn board before planing anything as you then have a bit more...

Most deforestation is down to farming, especially meat https://www.fao.org/newsroom/detail/cop26-agricultural-expansion-drives-almost-90-percent-of-global-deforestation/en European timber supplies are nearly all "sustained" - no virgin forest, all planted. It's been that way for 100s of years!

    Another Ban on the way?

I know I know! But they say not good in urban environment but OK where population thinner. Also there are ways of running it cleaner - dry wood essential and faster burn i.e. hotter, no slow "log burning" but faster burn with small stuff. Good insulated flue needed for good draw and faster...

    Another Ban on the way?

Wood stoves suit some circumstances and situations, but not all. Zero carbon low-tech solutions tend to get overlooked, whilst the search goes on for ever more sophisticated high technology, even though high tech is the basic cause of climate change in the first place, and is also dependent on...

    Another Ban on the way?

Wood burning is carbon neutral if from sustained sources or wood waste. Every woodworker should have one, if they aren't living in a densely populated area. There'll be plenty of wood waste around when we enter the impending scrap-iron age! I do think heat pumps etc are extremely...

    Another Ban on the way?

And yes we are drifting backwards. A good reason for getting a wood stove. With climate change disruption we are quite likely to find ourselves off-grid intermittently. A stove is going to be much more efficient than trying to live and cook around an open fire!

Is this getting a bit out of hand? - RSV jabs

I do not trust the people who argue against the science. Vaccines have saved millions of lives over the years.

    Smoking

Not true. The science is well established. Do you have links to your story? SCR, EGR valves and catalytic converters have some effect but not enough. https://www.greenpeace.org.uk/news/petrol-diesel-cars-vans-2030-ban-phase-out/...

Is this getting a bit out of hand? - RSV jabs

Of course it does, and very effectively, by reducing the number of infected/infectious people in the community.

Work so hard you cripple yourself

We lose the winter fuel payment. Not too bothered myself but not a good move by a party supposed to be defending the 99% Tory party based on resistance to change - almost an ideology in itself, as spelled out repeatedly by Salisbury and many other tory institutions. All modern states have...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Can't help it if you are always wrong! Really? There's a surprise! I think the biggest difference is the the right are driven traditionally by resistance to change, which really means hanging on to wealth, land, privilege, come what may. They conceal this under a false ideology (neo...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Not good to seek better wages or support other workers? I don't agree! The workers have as much right as the owners to negotiate their terms and conditions. I ask the neutral question and merely link the answers. e.g. Einstein on Socialism I think what you really mean is that it doesn't help...
