anyone else using repair care products

Dulux trade centre are around half what brewers charge btw. So these days I've dropped the slightly inferior timbabuild. They also sell toupret putty at £9 a tin.

anyone else using repair care products

Those are in order of preference. Like a triage when quoting for repairs. Splices are number three because they take longer and are restricted in that they need specific paint and original steel fittings can't be used. If using anything but accoya they are significantly inferior. Another little...

    Adirondack chair

Like many things I feel what made mine better(imho) were tapered back slats which were also spaced and rounded accurately(completed off the chair) this was involved for one but once it was jigged simple enough for loads of chairs. I also like using small tory head decking screws as they were...

Sawn to PAR - how much to allow?

I wouldn't use glued sections if I could avoid it. In particular fully exposed things like gates.

Tight splices are fine but my thinking is if it's not listed I'd prefer to rip out and replace en masse as any splice is vulnerable. Second I prefer a resin repair with at least a few mm space for resin and always using thin epoxy first. Third is a tight splice only using accoya. The smiths...

    Putty advice for sash windows

Can I recommend toupret brand glazing putty. It's basically modified linseed oil putty. Easy to use, white, paint in a few days, doesn't stink to bad and doesn't crack and doesnt smear. £9 a pot from the dulux centre. I reckon those water based heritage sealants are fine for double glazing but...

Am I really that out of touch?

It's not really relevant what your selling so much as how strong your web sales are. £76 /metre minus vat that's £61 shipping maybe £12 that's £49. Finishing cutting and packing maybe one hour £30/40 leaves £9 or so to buy the wood. It's not at all ridiculous .IMHO.

Help : What's this moulding profile called?

I find the making of the mould/scribe to be the easy bit. The area around the centre rails is the tricky area(unless your just pinning on the taper/step) it's essentially four different joints repeated twice. Well suited to making by hand but quite annoying by machine.

Gorilla glue doesn't seem very good

It's uses for me are quite specific and my go to is titebond 3. It's good on partial end grain like mitres.decent on end grain as well. Its also slippy and doesn't grab prematurely so big tight joints are perfect for it. It's waterproof and works well outside. It is messy but seems to clean up...

    Howdens

Howden can be OK. But I suggest taking full advantage of there complete system. Design supply delivery, replace damage. Then you can appreciate why there a successful outfit. I really can't abide Howden BTW. It's hard to compare an outfit that only provides cabinets.

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

My concern is training(sort of) but the amount of dangerously made and set up saws. My saw I know is decent quality and well set up.

    Forstner Drill Bits

My review of the fisch bradpoints is there really average. Quite a ragged hole considering its brand new. Almost certainly Taiwanese. They are centred though.

Best wood filler for larger knots

My advice is don't use in the first place. It's only beech and they never look good and may be dangerous if it's a crib.

Can you help with heat damage on veneered surface

With hard wax it would be possible to fill that then lose it by painting the grain in. All before refinishing of course.

    Retail mark up

Just to bring this thread full circle I've now received replies from three of the target 5 shops. It's not great news. I think these places are looking at paying around £30-40 per item and sell it at £70 or 80. Which is a quarter of what I currently sell them at. I reckon those hipster hardware...
