What is so difficult about a Ft3 price for prime grade oak?

Try venables brothers specialised oak suppliers near market Drayton. Used to be in Stafford. Always easy to deal with and way cheaper than say hymor who take the Michael.

    Hardwood Window Cill

Both me and Jacob have observed how oak cills don't always perform as well as softwood on old sash windows. I reckon it's because they don't absorb paint as well. They also weather to an exceptionally rough finish(being ring porous). If it was me I'd coat the windowsill with thin epoxy before...

    Ax ultimate edge/Sorby deluxe/Tormek T4/T8 ?

The ultimate edge Is rubbish for precision edges(planes big chisels) I mean things that have to be straight and fairly smooth. For them I use a tormek clone (jet). Bit annoying considering the name. I have to say I like the jet as it just delivers near perfect edges that take seconds to become...

    Oak doors laminate cracking

I'm of the opinion any exterior item is best made of a single chunk. This is from long and bitter experience. It may help the suppliers to productionise things but when the weather hits the 2/or more laminates can decide to move in opposite directions!(which is kinda the intention) with...

    Forstner Drill Bits

Look at this ebay purchase. It's got at least 2 maybe 3 different makers. I'm guessing in an original box. One maker is moninger? One is William ridgeway. There used but not really worn out. They are beautifully made as well.

    Router recommendations

Get a morticer they are basically perfect for the job of morticing and allow hand work after(working at any depth and from a single datum) there also cheap quiet and safe. Which one though? Sedgwick good but heavy. One with a spring return is lighter

    Durable exterior paint recommendations

I do quite like barn paint.. msp is nice to(although soft) these type of water base do have flex but can encounter adhesion issues on hard or oily or denatured wood. It's advised to thin the first coat a bit and sand to 120/180 no finer. If you decide oil based is the way(and if oil based has...

    Power feed on ring fence.

I'm just trying to picture the curved fence. Is it like a curved planer fence? Ie outfeed offset. Not using a template?

    Power feed on ring fence.

I was hoping someone that may have done it would weigh in with some sage wisdom!

    Wet Stone Grinder

I have this machine and quite like it but wish I'd stumped up for the tormek.

    Power feed on ring fence.

I've got some fairly chunky 9ft rad curve to do and i remembered someone suggesting a power feed minus the first and third wheel was perfect for this work. Anyone got any practical hints whose done this? Otherwise I'll do 20 by hand(only 4 ft long though)

Can you explain this table saw cut?

After working with the really stable quebec yellow pine your transported to a perfect utopia where your machines suddenly seem perfectly set and the the next job is character oak.... . Arghhhhhgg the stress(definitely not tension!)

Can you explain this table saw cut?

This is why a well set riving knife that tilts with the saw should be welded behind any saw blade. Never ever take it off.

Can you explain this table saw cut?

Very very common occurrence. Happens less on old wood. Often the thin offcut piece goes like a twiglet! They can open up from the fence pushing the wood into the blade. I do have a wedge near the outfeed but I need to stop the blade to put the wedge in. It baffles many when mdf/mfc springs on...

Trying to match a yellowy/ orange oak finish

The way it's achieved professionally is maybe slightly counterintuitive. You would certainly start with a similar colour dye stain(say Morrells light fast light oak and medium oak) But it must end up slightly lighter even if the tone is slightly off. At that point refer to a colour wheel and...

Who's got it better US or UK Woodworkers?

Woodwork is part of American/Canadian culture. Its a serious business. They have it much much better than us both in plentiful resources and extremely cheap tools. My friend visits a woodwork club in seattle. It's very well attended. I do think consumerism tends to overshadow much creativity...

    Adirondack chair

I did sell a lot in redwood and sapele. Maybe 50 but the paint was really effective and the pine ones are still great after many years. The problem wasn't making or selling but shipping. Those blue ones were a set sold to someone in Hampshire and I ended up taking them myself. There was £700...
