    Colouring shellac

Powder pigments can be added if your after opaque or aniline dyes work well. Liberon did small concentrated spirit colours.

    Brace and bit

I had a load of brand new clico augers I'd acquired. They were a hard sell taking years to get rid. I was half retail. They were good but rough compared with vintage brands tbh.

    Sharpening hollow mortice chisels.

Many chisels are to hard to sharpen with the older countersinks. They just skid. Mine only sharpen the ridgeway ones. I'm guessing the clico are harder. I use the Japanese multicos after buying a large Box of brand new chisels. In softwood they rarely need attention tbh.

    Old forstners

Oddly I found a reference to moninger in the old edition of the spindle moulder handbook. They made a block with both softwood and hardwood cutting angles shrewdly called "the diangle"

For Sale Mortise and Tenon Magazines

What's it like(if it's not a daft question!) Is it technical or mainly coffee table. ?

Using cedar for door frame and door?

Making a frame from cedar soft but nice. Making a door ditto. Using a door blank clad with cedar is the odd bit.

Using cedar for door frame and door?

? ? ? I don't like anything about this(apart from using cedar which may be lovely but really expensive)

    Old forstners

Honestly if no one knows anything about moninger or ridgeway or a boxed set like this it's fine. It just shows many things are not and never will be on the Internet.

    Old forstners

It was just an amusing remark in the hope it may catch someone's eye .

Wow that's a spectacularly poor response!

    Spraying Clear Gloss Lacquer

The method is always the same. Precat is much better than cellulose and acid cat/pu is the best. One coat. Allow to dry denib with 240. Strongly unless it's stained. Clean then another coat. Dry then another coat. It shouldn't need nibbing after the first coat(hence why the first coat can be...

What wood would and what wood wouldn't make your preferred species to work with.

Always redwood pine is my favourite all round wood. My least favourite is iroko or hard oak(American white oak) But walnut bot black and euro are superb timbers in most respects. I've also found English(hardwoid)trees from small sawmills can be the very nicest and distinct looking.

Ive done my time son, dont you worry about that.

Can I make a suggestion here. Do your forum time. Just read a few posts and try and help a few people. Gradually you'll find a space where people listen and help. People come and go on forums but I suggest a more sedate courtship and less wham bam thank you ma'am.

    Organisation and workflow

Endless options such as hobby woodworkers have when choosing there next project. I used to love magazine projects but I now find them typically hugely overcomplicated. I recall an in depth greenhouse build that was way to complicated and made from oak. The much older design was beautifully...

    Organisation and workflow

My workshop is mostly chaos. Of course I know where everything is. I have worked in a shared shop. I found it was nice but I could never focus properly. I need to really feel cosy and in control of my space. What helps for me is having a paying customer. It focuses you to simplify(boil down)...

    Old forstners

Has anybody ever come across a set of forstners like these. The only 2 with markings are ridgeway and moninger. They are older very well made and used not abused. Every one seems to have been the victim of a slightly weak chuck! Any idea of dating or moninger? I'm feeling these may have been...

Restoring one of the great classics. Robinson mortiser.

Whilst I've heard of Robinson they aren't as well known as say wadkin. What's there story? Bit like cooksley there almost victorian machines. I do know colliery maintenance depts loved dominion Elliotts. My Sedgwick does a job(albeit the dual use handwheel inaccuracy is a bit annoying) the...

    Bandsaw upgrade

It would be remiss of me to not mention a mitre gauge is almost pointless on a bandsaw. There a fairly rough and ready machine with no possibility of a finished surface. £234 would buy a reasonable mitre saw though. A stock of high quality blades preferably hss would be a hugely more useful...
