    Patreon and blog subscription prices

I find the patreon concept interesting in itself. Do we think it's replacing the lesson based courses of old? I've only listened to a few but I sometimes find them hard to follow especially when the subject is complex. I've listened to the guy from nottingham(bradshaw) mostly but Peter is also...

    Mentor Wanted

Much music learning is strict dogma as well. Not always easy but pays off in the end. Your forced to do quite unnatural things that need to feel natural. Doing very simple things perfectly is a huge part of this. Some may never be able to do complex perfectly but simple can layer on simple to...

    Rodding it out.

That's great work. Why did you not template on the spindle? And the question what's it for?

    Mentor Wanted

Bench joinery and box making are very different one isn't necessarily more difficult than the other. It's just that your literally up close to a box and any cracks/imperfections shout "look" in joinery they shout "fill me"

    Mentor Wanted

When I see posts like this I always consider how work of such truly amazing quality was achieved using simple tools. It's training by people who knew how to achieve this standard. Long and arduous as it was. I suspect a large dose of revising how long stuff takes(time=money) played a role with...

    Mentor Wanted

Box making is a lovely area to work and I made many as a hobby worker. To make a box to the highest standard with no flaws(in build and finish/fit) and working perfectly can be a stretch. You'd probably find it takes a lot more stuff/skills/techniques than you'd ever realise maybe even half a...

    Router Table lifts

The main issue with routers in tables is the bearings aren't up to it, a small powered feeder isn't a design feature but should be, the enclosure ruins the motor as it runs hot and dusty. An ability to incrementally raise/lower whilst useful doesn't alter the basic engineering facts. My of2000...

Repairing 250 year old pine window frame with what wood?

I would use accoya and repaircare

    Organisation and workflow

Somebody (now banned) said when woodwork becomes art that's when the problems start. A sentiment I totally agree with. When I'm simply copying something well that's a doddle. It's when I need to design and make where it becomes much trickier(and slower)

Startrite T30 pros and cons (single phase)

Pretty decent machines. Perhaps on par with minimax. I would make sure I got every accessory(slider/ring fence) as to get them after is not easy and they transform its uses somewhat.

Combination or Task Specific Table Saw Blades

When I first started with my us style saw I was very keen on swapping blades. But that soon became annoying and I mostly use a quality rip blade(maybe 12 teeth) preferring a dedicated cross cut with fine teeth. I do still use finer blades but on laminates. Quality Thin kerf are pretty good...

Wood carving hand tools: Vintage vs. NEW / Modern

The better vintage tools are beautifully forged and delicate. Capable of the finest work. Modern tools are variable the best are about on par the worst almost useless. They can be not quite as delicate but obviously are full length and every variety.

Advice needed about wooden external window sill.

Rebating is a bad idea as it would give the water a collection point(silicone is a bad idea being unpaintable as well) slope off to allow drain off.

Cleaning up tee bridle joint bottom

I think it's how it's dried. Once the moisture levels are really low it's dreadful. Air dried it may be lovely(beech is) but hard kilned it's like iron and shiny off the saw.. euro oak can be nice to work if its not stupid dry and brittle. But oak of any type isn't easy.

Cleaning up tee bridle joint bottom

Let me help you. Don't use American white oak for hand tool working. It's stupid hard. Get something nice and buttery that's dry but not baked. Say Ash cherry walnut redwood pine European oak Douglas fir. I fitted a howdens door and it had a shiny dark bit of oak where the latch went. I just...
