    Kitchen Plinths and Freestanding Devices

Hi, I don't think there are any other ways. You can't get over the geometry. Having said that, it doesn't really seem to spoil the look as the cutouts are hidden from most angles by the bottoms of the doors. If anyone has a better answer, I'd be very pleased to see it!

Floating shelf spanning perimeter of room.

One thing- you won't need wall spikes where there's an internal corner as shelves at right angles will support each other. You could use simpler and much cheaper cleats screwed to the wall, with grooves routed into the backs and ends of the shelves.

Elu MOF 177e. (If you're old enough)

I have- I had to use a specific size of guide bush which wasn't available as a Festool part- so got the Trend base. It works very well. Pete

    Festool CTL26E Question

Extractors are the only machines that have a socket in them- much harder to change than a plug. This is probably why it gets special treatment. So if you want to use it in Canada, you may have to have different plug it cables depending on whether you are plugging into the wall or the extract.

Brass wires on a Regency chiffonier

I’ve finished this. After a lot of messing about with different mats and soldering irons I found that the best combo was a micro blowtorch with a scrap of steel plate to protect the door panel. The wires heated up so quickly that the plate barely got hot.

    1st Compressor & Nailer Issues

It doesn't have a depth setting, does it? Mine isn't the same make but has a wheel you spin to make the nails go in deeper or shallower

    Picture room

Here’s a video of my latest finished project- it’s a picture room based on the one designed by Sir John Soane. My client had too many paintings for the amount of wall space in his house. The solution- increase the wall space! it was complicated by the room being quite small and having a large...

Brass wires on a Regency chiffonier

Thanks! I was thinking that would probably be the way. I’ll post the results when it’s finished.

Brass wires on a Regency chiffonier

I’ve taken on the restoration of a mahogany chiffonier. Most of it is straightforward woodwork, but one bit I have never done before. The doors have a lattice of curved brass wires which were originally soldered together. They are held in holes drilled in the inside edges of the door stiles...

What is going on with wood prices right now

I have just got a pile of melamine faced MDF, standard MDF and birch ply. The supplier (Timbmet) said price rises are driven by Brexit, Covid and the US market. Apparently, the Americans are buying more melamine faced MDF these days, which has led to factories being switched from producing...

    Cedar of Lebanon Backs

I've just deepcut some 24mm beech, it finished at 9mm without too much trouble. The secret is to surface it, just enough to flatten rather than to get it totally clean, and to deepcut it slowly with a bench saw. The kerf is wider than a bandsaw but it only takes one little wander on the bandsaw...

    Alder buckthorn wood

Are you talking about alder or elder or alder buckthorn? Alder is very usable- it looks very like cherry but is softer. Elder is marginal- I've used small bits for boxes. Alder buckthorn is a garden shrub and I have no idea whether it gets large enough to be useful.

Need some help with table saw choices.

The DeWalt is good but DW are very bad with spares, or so I am told by my local power tool repairer. Mine hasn't worked for years and I can't get it fixed.

    Worktops not wide enough?

If you can get hold of some of the same timber, I would just build out the back edge. it doesn't need to be the same thickness unless you can see an edge. If it's one of those ones made from lots of little bits, you can replicate that by using similar lengths. You could fix it very simply...

    Festool TKS80 or CS70 - Running off CTL26

My first two Festool extractors both died with switching problems- sometimes in the switch itself and sometimes on the motherboard. I am now quite careful about putting heavy loads through it and switching on and off frequently. If I'm using a large router and it's going to be on for some time...

Help with best London Pattern handles.

Can I ask why you want this pattern? I have a gents saw with one of those handles and it isn't all that nice to use.

    Very wide boards

Thanks for your suggestions. After much Ecosia-ing, I found Interesting Timbers, who have just what I'm after, plus they can thickness it for me (my thicknesser will only do 300mm).
