    Cedar of Lebanon

Wipe down a few times with mineral sprits of naphtha to get rid of the surface oils leaking out of wood. Then apply a couple of coats of thinned shellac Letting dry between each coat. Then lightly sand any nubs down. The Alcohol in the shellac will also help with the oil. Then when the shellac...

Well aren’t we the romantic pair, I got her a tin of coffee! but she did start it. She told me when she was at work that a co-worker asked what did you get Glenn. And she said. We have each other for the last 30 years, that’s all we need!

    Mini indoor "kiln"

They will still crack with end sealer on them. Just takes longer if end sealed. And yes the picture you show is exactly what I’m talking about. Lots of turners when they get good wet wood and can’t get to it. Will submerge it in water so it can’t dry out then rough it .

    Mini indoor "kiln"

My apologizes Adam. I misread the sizes. I still believe the lights should not be used, as in my opinion with the pith included or barely just cut out, it needs to be a slow dry. Anything to speed it up is asking for trouble, if you don’t use anchor seal, brush a bit of shellac or water and...

    Mini indoor "kiln"

With the pith in, I’d put anchor seal on outside on bottom end grain, or your going to lose a lot of them even though you rough hollowed. A lot of people turn goblets with the pith in those 3x3 blocks. You can finish turn while wet and make sure pith is off Center when making a goblet so stem is...

Do they all have a Center Pith going through them like the pictured one. If so they are bound to crack if you do not rough hollow them to allow them to move while they dry. Then go for a slow dry, the slower the better. Anchor seal on all end grain on outside. Not much heat.,

    Can’t give this bowl away.

I made this bowl for a friend who has helped us a lot in the past. a bit of a back story. A few years ago we received a chocolate lab , who was a return at 7 weeks old. But that’s another story. We didn't have a name, until a friend suggested we call him Burl. As I’m always turning maple Burl...

    Circle cutters?

Okay want to thank everybody. I’ve got a few solid ideas. the Leather punches and the arch punches. Also went to Glenn Lucas site. His punches look notoriously like a modified hole saw. I have some of those so I’m going to mount one in my wood lathe chuck and get an angle grinder and take teeth...

    2021 Secret Santa.

Okay. I am beyond impressed with my first ever personal pen. I’ve been sitting here all weekend doing company books and taxes with my new secret Santa pen. And I have to admit, it not only writes, it flows. It’s a joy to use. Who knew that a homemade pen could be so much better then your usual...
