    I'm a cyclist.

It's quite simple Deema, the ksi statistics you showed were per mile. Cars and vans spend a lot of their milage on motorways and dual carriage ways where there's no pedestrians or cyclists to kill, this makes the figures look good for them. If you used urban milage only where car/ cyclist /...

    Sound Insulation For Workshop

You can totally fill between studs and joists but should have a vapour barrier on the warm side ( inside). OSB counts as a vapour barrier as it is basically impermeable, you could mastic the joints to be sure. The simpleist way to reduce machine noise leaking outside is to ensure there's no...

    Sound Insulation For Workshop

Firstly block all gaps under eaves etc, think how much difference shutting a door can make to any noise. Stopping airborne sound is basically about mass to absorb it and insulation doesn't have much ,though two layers of OSB is probably quite good. How noisy is your machinery, the manuals should...

    Pattress board ideal thickness?

I would expect 22mm flooring to be as good as 18 mm ply. The problem I would see with multiple thin sheets is that screwing in to them may push the pieces apart slightly.

    Pattress board ideal thickness?

You'll be nailing or screwing the osb up so will be able to see where the studs are in the future. 400mm spacing is close enough that they'll be ok for whatever layout you choose. If you decide the effort is worth it I use 18 mm ply between studs where radiators will go.

    Am I misunderstanding panelling

The diagonals should be in compression when the gate tries to sag. The bottom ones are correct the top ones need reversing. Jacob beat me to it. Edit I'm referring to the first drawing the second has an incorrect diagonal detail as well.

    External Doors - Weatherbars?

I have seen weather seal factory fitted to a door but it was a continuous loop of a rubber seal so couldn't come out.

    External Doors - Weatherbars?

If you routed aquamac into the door it would probably fall out particularly on the corners. Stick on p strip is certainly the easiest way to upgrade an existing frame.

    Am I misunderstanding panelling

22x100mm would be a very lightweight frame for a wide gate. Also in that thickness a simple half lap joint might be a better choice for outdoor work. You can get feather board for fence panels in most places which is tapered from about 4-16 mm , you can tidy it up with a light sanding but...

    BucksDad Workshop Build

Bifolds can be top hung or bottom rolling so don't necessarily need a particularly strong beam over. There are various arguments for which is best, personally I don't see much difference.

    Minimum Log Diameter for Chairmaking

If you have knot free lengths you can split them in half with axe or metal wedge to start a split then use wooden wedges to extend the split where you want it. Then run the half logs over a planner to give a flattish surface so it's safe to saw with a table or band saw. Like most things your...

    Pallet of hardwood offcuts £330

The maximum length seems to be about 800mm. For the price I would hope to get more timber and not have it cut up. He also says the oak may be "character" grade. I'll be interested to see the final price, I could start saving for my Christmas bonus.

Reducing waste on tongue and groove 22mm chipboard flooring options?

Use random joints. Lay a full board then cut a piece to fill the gap leaving 10 mm min expansion gap to perimeter. The next row starts with the offcut and you carry on like that. Start with the tounge facing out and a tounge to the end then it's easy to drop in the last board. Run a fat bead of...

Reducing waste on tongue and groove 22mm chipboard flooring options?

Use the offcut ( minimum 300mm) to start the next run. If you don't have enough buy more it's not expensive.
