Help me find the best way to do an inverted T shape cut in 2.4m oak sleeper

What you are suggesting is not going to be possible. Sawing in half then cutting/routing the shape then reguleing is a lot of work for big tools and movement may mean it doesn't work as well as you hope. So you need to think of a plan B. Could you cut the concrete post down to an 18" stub, cut a...

Which resin anchor should I use (old crumbly brick)

It's best to clear the dust from the hole with a blower which has a straw that is pushed to the back of the hole and then pump to blow the dust out. If you don't have a proper one you should be able to make something with a bike pump or a pump for inflatables. It's easy to see when no more dust...

    Teak Supplier North West

Liverpool is a major port for tropical hardwood imports so there will be some around in the N W . Try boat builders/ repairers and ask which yards they use.

    Adirondack Guide Boat Itch.

If you have offsets you draw them on a board with x and y axes then join the dots to get the shape of the outer hull so you then need to account for planking and rib thickness. Steamed ribs will want to spring back so you need to overbend them, there's probably a formula for how much.

    Fire door regs?

Fire rated furniture and pads are easy to get hold of so use them. A good closer particularly on a garage door will keep it shut which is the most important thing. The ironmongery direct website has some good information.

    Home Lift

I had always presumed that these small lifts were based on a hydraulic scissor lift rather than string and pulleys. Hydraulic lifts are a fail safeish system and only load the ground floor so would need less structural work.

    Sharp radius bends in plywood

It's made that shape from veneers pressed in a form similar to many ply chairs in the 60's and 70's. You'll need a vacuum bag to do it at home.

    Newbie + a question

I have a welder with a short 13A to 16 A extension lead. The 13 A plug has a 15 A fuse wire in it as Doug said above. While I couldn't recommend this from a safety point of view it does work and for short periods and no other big loads on the ring at the same time I can't see a problem.

    73 x 48 mm timber - no longer made?

Old studs tend to be very uneven, it was probably sawn at 3" and has dried and shrunk a bit. Regularised timber makes site work much easier now.

Garden Room - Steel Beam Help Please!!

Ask a structural engineer it should not cost much as it's very simple and may save you over or under specifying. I would also suggest a warm roof. Venting a flat cold roof is not that effective, fiddly and involves more cost. A warm roof of 150 mm rockwool and vapour barrier is cheap ,easy and...

    Oak boards help

A tarp is not good you can basically end up with a very damp warm tent over the wood which is not good. Stack off the ground with sticks between boards in a neat pile with a roof board on top weighted down to keep it in place.

Is this a fair price for oak boards?

A Google search for timber mechants and sawmills near Wigan throws up a few results.

    Toddler Bed Advice

The separate feet pieces shown in the photo provide a lot of support to the joint which will otherwise just rely on the rail fixing on quite a small section. I agree with others that the barriers seem a bit excessive and will prevent you sitting on the edge of the bed when reading and putting...

Is this a fair price for oak boards?

Seems pricey to me ,rough sawn air dried £40-45 per cubic foot, with deduction for splits, excess sap etc . PAR with no sap kiln dried might be £60-90 per cube. The prices you've quoted are £130+ per cube so I'd want something really special for that. Edit: I've presumed they're charging per...

Rose arch; build or buy ?

To laminate an arch you'll need the wood to bend fairly easily to the curve you want so 50 x22 mm might do it or you may need to go down to 18 mm. Build a form with a few blocks fixed to a board, cover it with plastic then clamp on the glued strips. Practice first without the glue.

How to cut a slate slab (and how difficult is it)?

Angle grinder with a diamond blade will do it quickly but can flake off bits of the edge on the top side as you cut. This doesn't always happen and may not be a problem particularly when roughing out. A jigsaw on very slow speed with a coarse tooth blade is surprisingly effective especially for...

Rose arch; build or buy ?

I did a very simple one at home. I used narrow fence panels, the type designed to go on top of a wall, as they are fully treated and I couldn't be bothered to rip down and treat thin slats. The posts have holes drilled in the base and are slotted on to 22mm steel bar knocked into the ground which...

    Pergola Insulation - too hot

A pergola is an unroofed garden structure, it looks like you have a conservatory roof. You can jam foil board insulation in-between the rafters and then board the inside to retain it but will obviously reduce light levels in the conservatory and house. If you do that use a lighter board than 18...
