    MIG versus TIG

My uncle used to keep them in the airing cupboard so they didn't get damp sitting in a cold garage.

    Mould and damp

I guess we could go on arguing ad infinitum as clearly we aren't going to agree. Pretty much all building material 'breathe' and it's a pretty common term to use. It's the reason we now use 'breathable' membranes and paints. Lime mortar is also a 'breathable' material and one of the problems...

    Mould and damp

Whilst we are fully capable of replacing the floor ourselves why would we? I've already said numerous times there is no issue with the floor if a carpet is used. Your 'simple' remedy would be hugely expensive for most people. Also if you know anything about underfloor heating you often get more...

Auger bits and hand brace drill ... a few questions !!!

My Dad still uses his occasionally. Just this week I got him to bring it to my house as we were changing a door frame that had slotted screws and he has a big flathead bit for his brace. I have on occasion put in a posidrive bit as you can put a lot of torque through it.

    Mould and damp

The floor isn't damp! that is the entire point! It only causes a problem if it can't breathe. Which is the same as the others have said on this post. If the tenant does certain things it will cause a problem regardless of how well regulated the land lord is. There hasn't been an issue since she...

    MIG versus TIG

I would love to learn TIG but it is expensive. A TIG machine is significantly more expensive than MIG. I've managed to weld 0.5mm stainless with my mig but it wasn't easy. I've welded up my kitcar exhaust in stainless and it looks great, not quite as good as the stacked TIG welds that the pro's...

    Mould and damp

Whilst I agree there should be min standards, you are vastly over simplifying the situation. In my lino example the tenant took out the carpet provided (and threw it away) and replaced it with the lino without asking. My dad is pretty good at most things but mind reading is not one of them. So...

    Mould and damp

And any careless ne'er-do-well can be a tenant also. If you are a landlord you will know the pitfalls of a bad tenant. Do you think you won't get any complaints if you rented out a single glazed house with draughtly doors and windows and told the tenants it's to prevent mould?

    Mould and damp

My dad rents out houses. One tenant had black mould around the windows in the house (which we found after they left without paying). The media would paint this as being the landlords fault but this was in the ~2 year old extension with new pvc double glazing. There was no water ingress at all...

The scams are getting really sophisticated now.

Facebook marketplace is full of scammers. Loads of adverts for things that are clearly too cheap. E-bikes for £90 and was looking at chicken sheds the other day and loads of those again for about £90. The pictures are clearly stock images and there is no way they are that cheap. Out of interest...

Wood Options for making Painted Wood Furniture

Looking to do something similar in the future and was probably going to use pine and plyboard for the inserts. Local lumber yard is pretty good at letting me look through the stack and I've had a fair few pieces with only 1 or 2 small knots in a 5m length. Think the trick is to buy wider boards...

    Electric hand planers

Neighbour gave me an electric hand plane and after trying it a few times it's sat in it's box somewhere in my garage. Perhaps Im not using it properly but find it so much better just to use my proper woodplane, also a lot quieter

    Euro plug

Just so you are aware ff it's a C6 connector they are only rated for 2.5A. The 'Kettle' leads are rated for 10Amps. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60320

    planer thicknesser

I have an erbauer P/T which looks pretty identical to the titan one. I'm assuming they are still made the same way so will warn you of one aspect and a potential solution if it happens.... For some unknown reason (probably to ensure it breaks at some point) they have used a needle bearing on...

    Fancy/better quality household plug...

I believe you should also use a ferrule on the end of flex to protect the strands when you tighten the connections. If you are running high power through the cable and some of the strands are broken you effectively have a smaller cable at that point.

    Dust

I have a Site one from screwfix that is meant to have replaceable filters but screwfix never sold replacements. But the way the filters fit I cut new rounds out of a single disposable P2 mask and they pop/clip right in. Costs me about £1 every time I refresh the filter. It did have activated...

Where do you hang your clothes at night?

I currently have an actual wooden ladder as I also use it to access the loft occasionally. At some point I intend to make a rustic towel ladder. If you do a search on google etc you can see what mean. I guess it depends on your room styling as to what you'd want. I like the natural type which...

    An attempt was made . . .

Yes, it was american oak. Wasn't sure if european oak was the same as 'red' oak. It's certainly different to the american white oak I've just used for some door surrounds.

    An attempt was made . . .

Watched an interesting (well to us at least) video on red oak vs white oak and apparently red oak is very porous and they even blew air through a piece to prove it. The white oak on the other hand had closed pores. Although I would have still have thought oak wouldn't be great for a rolling pin...

    MT1 or MT2? Al-Ko Kober HDM 850

Thanks both. That all makes sense. I should elaborate a little as I do have most of the attachments in the pictures on that site which includes a faceplate, eggcup holder and drive centre. The reason for asking about the hole is that I was hoping to buy a small drive centre as the screw on one...
