Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

additionally, although it won't help reduce current demand, all new houses should be built to much higher insulation standards and include things like passive solar gain. Older houses should seek to reduce their demand also where possible. I'm working to make my house as energy efficient as...

    Need to escape/reset

Not sure how things are reported/recorded at the school you work at, but I wonder if doing a proper official looking report with risk assessments and priorities etc would help. Apart from anything else it covers you from being blamed if something happens. Much harder for the head (or governors)...

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

yes, it already happens to a small degree. All of our food waste is sent to anerobic digesters to create methane. Denmark has a large amount due to pig farming. I think it accounted for about 15% of their energy production if I remember correctly.

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Tidal and hydro would be a good place to invest for a start. Also you can switch your sentence to say 'where is the power going to come from when there is no/limited gas'. Bigger thinking needs to take place. I used to work at a school and despite having over 500 computers and hundreds of...

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

looks a lot more like how dependent we are on wind, seeing as that is providing far more generation than the few times gas has to step in. You realise natural gas is finite right? at some point in the next few decades it will run out or become vastly more expensive and is subject to nations...

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

not really surprising when Musk doubled the final price and more and more people have reported problems with the truck. Can't blame that on EV technology. that is just a bad implementation of an EV. If it was an ICE truck it would still be an overpriced poorly designed vehicle.

    Portable Media-blaster

You may have already looked into this but be careful with which blast media you use and always use respirator etc. I've read you should never use sea sand as it is likely to have a high silica content. Garnet seemed to be one of the better ones as no silica. If you want a less abrasive material...

    Smallest possible downstairs toilet

my parents have a toilet room with a shower that is 700 wide. the door is in the centre/side and toilet to the left and shower to the right (behind the door once you've entered). It's obviously not super spacious but i don't have a problem with it. Maybe if you are 'big boned' shall we say it...

How essential is a wood thickness planer?

I've got an erbaurer planer/thicknesser (was around £200) and it does what I need it to. I've planed 4x4inch oak for example to build a big 4 poster bed along with loads of other things. It obviously isn't a £4000 machine but it works well enough for what i need it to. still pretty heavy to move...

    Multitool advice

one of the funniest tool related things I've seen is an article interviewing Sarah Beanie (think it was in the telegraph magazine). They asked at the end what her most important thing to carry with her/in her handbag was. She said a 'Multitool'. The person (or intern) putting the article...

How is lane filtering on a motorbike allowed and/or safe?

I often find myself wondering how on earth 'filtering' on a motorbike is allowed or safe. I get that if traffic is stationary or crawling (<10mph or so) then slowly moving to the front is relatively safe but there there appears to be no limits on what is deemed a safe speed. On here for...

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

    A. Yes, the stats you just posted show that there is less exhaust CO2 from Diesels. But I will conceed this is almost negligable assuming this is actually the case (please post links/sources). B. What are we comparing though? Let's look at the euro 6 specs...

    Hall Effect

I thought the way they did it on the motoring website i linked was quite sensible https://www.motortrend.com/uploads/f/103902724.jpg?w=768&width=768&q=75&format=webp very easy to drill a hole to push the magnet in from the side and then it can't fly out. Although not sure what the black square is?

    Paint for kids toys.

I have (some) control over what paint finish I apply to toys, I have little/no control over nuclear emmissions. I'm not sure it would wash if I just painted toys with toxic paint and if anyone called me out on it just said 'well there are bigger issues in the world than this'. True, that most...

    Hall Effect

These types of sensor are common in old car engines where you are converting from points to an electronic ignition or fuel injection. If you look here https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/1604-how-to-convert-a-crank-trigger-ignition/ you'll see they mount the sensor exactly as per your second...

    Paint for kids toys.

I'm only guessing but I'm pretty sure the OP wanted some suggestion of brands to try/recommendations. I'm reasonably sure the OP knew to use toy paint on toys, or house paint on houses or fence paint on fences.

    Paint for kids toys.

ah yes I think the furniture paint does have VAE binders. https://earthbornpaints.co.uk/our-top-5-eco-credentials/ 'Our paints are water based and free from oils, with Claypaint being totally free from acrylics and vinyl.' I was probably looking at the claypaint at some point and got mixed up...

    Paint for kids toys.

I've started using Earthborn paints. A bit pricey but plastic free and much better for the environment. Goes on nicely and covers well. According to the features panel on this page they are child and baby safe https://earthbornpaints.co.uk/paint/furniture-paint/

    Speed Awareness Course

I'm pretty good at keeping my distance from the car in front. My car actually has a display to show how many seconds I am away from the car in front. Pretty hard though on the motorway when you leave a space and someone just pulls into the space. Not as bad as in france though where you leave an...

    Speed Awareness Course

sometimes I do this if it is clear that they are not going to pass and just want to drive extremely close. It can be very distracting having someone very close behind. Either that or I'll drive slower to mitigate the potential danger of having to stop suddenly.
