    Double fail for Amazon

Whilst I agree it is pretty hard to judge the morals of CEOs everytime you want to buy something, I'd argue it's relatively easy to pick out the worst offenders based on their net worth and salary. Jeff Bezos net worth is ~$200 Billion. You don't get to have that much money by playing by the...

    Oh FFS!.....

I believe copyright doesn't apply if it is in the public domain and you are using it for critique or review etc. Dave Gorman did a funny bit where he wanted to use the front cover of (I think) Hello magazine on his show so to get around copyright he 'critiqued' it, mostly by saying it was an...

Cooling in a small storage room

Can't see any pic so just guessing but generally speaking if the air in the room is hot you need to replace it with cooler air. Pumping more air in without a way out is not really going to work that well. If it were me I'd look to have an IN vent at the bottom of the room and an OUT vent at the...

Wood screws, coach screws or threaded inserts?

unless you go all the way through with a bolt, all of the other options are doing the same job. i.e they all have a thread that bites into the wood. I'd probably just go with big wood screws something like 6x40mm

    diy diesel injector puller

Last MOT was told my car was 'chuffing' which was a new one on me, as this is my first diesel. So started taking all the annoying plastic bits and air pipes and everything else off to get down to the injectors and found a nice mess. After coal mining to remove the huge build up of carbon...

    Making some 2mm laminate?

Do the pole pieces actually need to be that tight? The just need to not move around. Easiest way would be to make them just tight enough that they don't fall out. If you are wax potting them then the pole pieces aren't going to move, and if you aren't and you really want to be sure they don't...

    Dust extraction despair

what about something like this 54mm silicone straight coupler https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404901669677 and a couple of jublee clips.

    Double fail for Amazon

It was a publicity stunt! They were never going to actually break into it, and clearly we did protect it otherwise it would be destroyed, which it isn't. So instead it goes to a central government that can and does abuse the system but at a higher level. Look at the US, does that seem like it...

    Help with a hatchet

There is simple pleasure it taking something that doesn't work and making it work again, hopefully for many years. I re-handled a claw hammer head a few years back and it is a joy to use. no reason for a perfectly good tool to end up in metal recycling. They were designed to have the handles...

    What wood for beehives UK?

I recently saw some hives that automatically collect the honey without the need to open it up. I don't think I'd use them but was interesting to see. You just twist a lever and it breaks the honeycomb and the honey runs out of a tap. And then it gets reset to collect more honey. It was an...

Drawers - how do you rabbet yours?

I was going to ask why not just cut slots for the draw base to slot into? Pretty much as the video but I don't see the need for the extra bits of wood. Most of the old school drawers I have at home have the base slide into a slot in the sides and front and then just a few nails across the back.

    What wood for beehives UK?

Are there any beekeepers or groups near you? Speak to them as they will know what works well in your area. If you look on FB marketplace you'll find people selling honey so you could always buy some and speak to them, I've found most beekeepers are keen for others to get involved.

    Double fail for Amazon

I may well be wrong in amazon being the predominate reason for failing highstreets but it is certainly another contributing factor. Supermarkets are just another type of megacorporation though. I was speaking to a guy who ran a music store in my town and he said people would come in and try a...

    Double fail for Amazon

Don't mean to bash anyone that uses amazon but I stopped using it years ago. I think the whole thing is toxic. It's a megacorporation making one person extremely wealthy beyond comprehension. I don't want to give Bezos any more money for rockets or super yachts, while he hires and fires people...

    Vehicle batteries

thankfully you could still open the main driver door with a key and then open the bonnet. The boot was an electrical switch so would not open with a flat battery. You could drop the seats but then really hard to lift the boot floor to get to the battery, hence the connection point under the...

    Punching tool for ferrules

the ferules on some of my old chisels are just indented slightly, not enough to break through the brass but enough to prevent it coming off. When I re-handled some I just made them really tight and didn't bother denting them, as Cabinetman said.

    Vehicle batteries

are you sure there isn't a connection somewhere for charging? I've seen it on some cars. I think from memory my bmw had this as the battery was in the boot but if it was flat you couldn't open the rear door, so there was a connection under the bonnet to attach charging cables etc.

    Ford Sierra

I'd guess it is the usual hidden screws behind the door handle and release lever and then either some screws around the edge or hidden push in clips. Even with a proper removal tool I'd imagine they will break as they will be about 30yrs old at the youngest. Was a long time ago when I took one...

How would you cut game counters from dowels?

I was cutting mitres to make a picture frame on my mitre saw a couple of weeks back. Something I noticed was that i got chip out if the workpiece was against the fence but if I put a block on the fence to bring it out I didn't get chip out. I think it was to do with the angle the blade was...

Gone in the blink of an eye - employees

I don't take offense. I have seen for myself It can vary dramatically. I've been in the charity sector since 2004 building websites. The first one I worked for was in the begining very good. We weren't paid much and did the job because we believed in the outcome. We regularly 'punched above our...
