    Royal Mail tracker...

My Evri guy is a star too. It's the last mile guys who make or break these delivery services.

    Royal Mail tracker...

2 days back ebay tells me I've had a parcel delivered. No sign of it and it was a little ££. Flagged to ebay " not received" Ebay soon comes back, yes, delivered, here's the RM tracking number, call them. Call to RM queues for 30 mins. Nice woman answers. Polite, helpful, tells me it was left w...

    Hall Effect

24V (DC, yes ?) shouldn't disturb a pulsed signal from the hall sensor and the sensor pulses at probably under 12V won't disturb the 24V feed to the motor either. It is wise to separate control / sensor wiring from power wiring in many contexts but I doubt this merits it.

    "Indoors" Toolkit Thread

Your goto toolkit says a lot about what you do most :) This is mine in the maxpedition bag, plus the cordless driver that lives in the house for screwdriving jobs and small holes with hex shank drill bits. Opening up: It's nearly all electro-mech'. Spot the tinkerer :)

    Help: Minimax S45 spring replacement

Read this .... https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/scm-minimax-s45-bandsaw-teardown-overhaul.135069/ The S45 isn't designed to take more than a 20mm blade and without significant modification (much more than just swapping a spring) it can't properly tension an M42 blade in 20mm size. So no, I...

    Hall Effect

The one in my photo is what's supplied with these £7 Chinese rpm display modules. Quite practical if you want to read, say, the rpm of a lathe spindle but not if you want closed loop control of a universal motor doing 20,000 rpm. @J-G One thought for a compact installation. If the pulley is...

    Hall Effect

The hall effect sensor is a small device in the end of what is basically a threaded tube. Stick the tube through a hole and secure with nuts either side and you have a robust, easy way to hold and position the sensor close to the passing magnet. Small is nice in the right place but in machinery...

    Hall Effect

I doubt north south matters for the sensor's purpose, but field strength will matter for getting a clear reading, and maybe more so as speed increases. Arrange it anyway you like but have the N or the S pole of the magnet pointing directly at the sensing face and keep the distance between them...

    Sedgwick CP bearings

I can't help with the CP bearings but they will be a standard bearing, readily available from Simplybearings or Bearingboys online. Pull it apart and the numbers should be engraved on the sides of the old ones. Take a look at this thread for a full overhaul of an older versison of the mid range...

    3M Versaflo alarms

If you run it with the filters completely removed, do the alarms stop ? And if you gradually restrict the flow by moving your hand across the end of the hose, does the fan ramp up to try and maintain airflow and then sound the alarm when you restrict it too much ? Of course you can't use it...

    Pillar drill

:) At the time I couldn't answer that as I don't have any chucks smaller than 13mm and made a quick post using an old photo... But it turns out they should (just) fit in a 10mm chuck. It's not very clear from the photo but they have three flats at 120 degrees to stop them slipping in the chuck...

    Pillar drill

16mm chuck waaay too big for a little 3 speed drill like that. If you want to make bigger holes in sheet, look at these TC hole cutters. They fit the 13mm chuck on my cordless drill. That's as much as you would want to size up and not so that you can try and push a 13mm drill bit through thick...

Need advice for dismantling shaft and searching for bearings for Kity 637

It is not too difficult to round out the hexagon in socket screws like that. I think you've done well to keep it in good shape as pictured. Good advice above. I would make a point of only using allen keys and hex bits that are a tight fit in the socket as you try using impact.

Can you make a DC motor run more quietly?

Some dc motors are quieter than others. I can't recommend anything specific as I don't use them, just have encountered a few over the years and noticed this variance. Slowing it down typically would reduce noise so dropping the voltage was a very sensible thing to try. My first thought was about...

Making a sturdy-ish workbench with foldable/detachable legs that does not wobble?

A thought. The weight of a laser head must be absolutely trivial compared to the weight and cutting forces applied to the head of a cnc router. This makes me think that the problem to be solved can't be that difficult. I'd be tempted to try and overpower it by using a heavy table top. That will...

    Cobalt Drills

Cobalt are usually used for drilling harder tougher alloys and stainless which work hardens and can kill an ordinary drill bit quickly if you don't have good technique. Buy them singly when you need them for a specific job. High Speed Steel jobber drills are disposable things. You may not even...

    Banggood, VAT, import duties

I've bought from them once. A piece of electronics shipped from China. It took a few weeks but all was OK. I'd use them again without hesitation. I haven't seen the router plane but the hongdui products I have seen are very well made for the money. If ever in doubt over an online seller, just...

Advice on potential purchase of a workshop

The Si15F in your link has a 50" slider. It will cut an 8x4 in half crosswise using the slider, it won't rip the board lengthwise that way. But it has plenty of width in the rip fence and the outrigger so you just have to slide the sheet over the table some of the way during a long rip cut...

Advice on potential purchase of a workshop

My first glance at it was I'd start negotiating at nearer £12k Buying someone else's bundle means they have either done a good job of picking machines that suit whatever they did, or they've gathered some random selection. If you were starting from scratch, you'd gather machines that suit what...
