    Router Table lifts

I have used a UJK lift a little and been very unimpressed with it. Jessem with their own or an AUK spindle are significantly more expensive but night and day better. If I had a UJK table I would settle for using a simple plate in it and a dewalt DW625 / ELU MOF177e underneath. With that router...

Combination or Task Specific Table Saw Blades

Yup. £100++ blades new. Beautiful things and no doubt worth it to trade and industry. I have one I bought used on the bay and the carbides are so big it has many sharpenings in it. It is in the first photo of that thread I linked. Freshly sharpened with the wax still on the teeth. The blade even...

    Rcd tripping

I think I'd turn it over to your spark. If the 100mA RCD is tripping too easily, you have the option of replacing it or removing it. Use a type A if you replace it. I think a little investigation with an earth leakage clamp meter may unearth the problem. Not all electricians have one but they...

Combination or Task Specific Table Saw Blades

You need to get in touch with Antony at Priestner Saws in Aldford just S of Chester. He has a huge investment in high end sharpening machines and makes a blade sharper than factory fresh. He has industrial clients all over the UK who send him batches of blades, so you don't have to be local.

    Rcd tripping

That wiring is OK. 30mA rcd's at the sub boards to protect people. 100mA rcd at the main board to protect the distribution cables to those sub boards, provided the cables are installed in a way that there's no risk of somone putting a screw into them. They should be in conduit or run in steel...

How to square a wonky piece of wood?

What do you want to make the cut with ? Mitre saw Table saw Router Hand saw and plane ? The answer differs with the method but a high quality combination square is helpful to most of them. An aluminium rafter square can also be helpful provided it is a good one with the perpendicular edge...

    Buying a used domino df500

Ask the age. Festool warranty is 3 years if it is registered and they will transfer the balance if there is any left. The process is clearly documented on Festool's website. Check what evidence they require and ask for it if the tool is young enough have warranty left. Make sure to get...

How to join (mend) a wire in a motor

Ask your local scrappy what they pay for motors ? It will be worth a few pounds so don't just take it to the council tip.

    WORKBENCH EDGEING

I agree with Doug. Thin is more than good enough. Frankly I'd treat the whole top as sacrificial, don't bother to edge, just seal the top and edges with thinned varnish which will soak in and seal it even more. Yours looks like a general mechanics workbench. My suggestions were aimed at a bench...

    WORKBENCH EDGEING

Maybe look for a different supplier ? I have had a bench which used 2 thicknesses of 18mm ply for the top. That makes a strong bench. I wanted to be able to put dog holes along the front edge so I could push in dogs to make a planing stop or to clamp stuff between a fixed dog and a sideways...

    Rcd tripping

Earth leakage (normally small) is a feature of switch mode power supplies and inverters. By the time you get to a dozen or so laptop and similar power supplies on the same circuit with a 30mA RCD, you have a risk of the RCD tripping. VFD's are the same, maybe more so, as @Spectric explains...

    Drip, drip, drip

It's a real catch 22. Using soluble oil / water mix coolant is such a mess in a diy setting. It tends to spray, cleanup is a pain and if you don't and leave it, it does stain your machine in places like underneath the vice on a milling machine. Not ideal but I'll stick to oil and indexable tools...

Combination or Task Specific Table Saw Blades

Do you have a (good) mitre saw ? If yes, keep a fine tooth blade on that (say 80T) for your majority of cross cuts and just buy 2 blades for the laguna. One combi blade, 40 teeth say One rip blade 12 to 16 teeth. That will minimise the swapping about. Ripping timber with a general purpose...

    The Cheapest Energy So Far

Sky broadband. A conversation with their customer service a few years ago basically exposed the attitude that if you pay their advertised rates and don't haggle at renewal time you're a mug and deserve to be fleeced. Wood carving hand tools: Vintage vs. NEW / Modern

I imagine there are far fewer professional woodcarvers nowadays than a hundred years ago so fewer professional forgers of woodcarving chisels, and maybe some loss of that skill. But the science of metallurgy is more advanced than it ever was and the steels available to manufacturers are better...
