    Statins and statistics

I think that the longer lifespan we experience today and that has now apparently peaked is down to the fact we don't really live longer but are supported by medication to keep us going, ok some will succeed without but I dare say they would be the minority and it is medication that keeps a lot...

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

I suppose the industrial machinery does have a brake, when used in a place of work then training and safety is part of PUWER whereas sawstop is aimed at more home / hobby where anyone can have a go and either learn the right way or potentially get injured.

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

When you read the gumph about this sawstop it has a major issue in that it is the same as an E stop, something that reacts after the event. With an E stop something has happened and someone operates the stop and with the sawstop you have to make contact with the blade, it appears only to...

    Poor Moderation

We probably enjoyed the variety of input to the debate as much as anyone else and thanks to all the participants it was not a thankless task as you made it a pleasure to moderate and it did not become an all out war zone. Do not worry @Jacob there is no intention of this thread being...

How to judge quality of SDS drill bits?

Ok so your hole goes through a tile, initially avoid SDS and definately no hammer action. Use masking tape and put the mark onto this, then drill the tile using a drill with a tile drill to get through the glaze and tile, there is a big difference in drilling through ceramic tiles and...

How to judge quality of SDS drill bits?

Depends what you mean by precise, holes in concrete etc only need to be in the right place rather than precise. Do you mean perpendicular or location ? If you buy SDS bits from the likes of Bosch or Dewalt then you have good bits, also look at...

Gorilla glue doesn't seem very good

Just seems like snake oil to me with the silly advertising they seem to use. Probably ok to glue skin and fur though .

Help : What's this moulding profile called?

If you had a spindle molder then you could get the exact match and for not much more than a router cutter, @deema knows all about custom cutters for the spindle and has done a good write up to.

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

Do they even have metalwork or woodwork workshops anymore ? Back in the 70's we were let loose with chisels and metalworking lathes and the only injury I can recal is the teacher cutting himself with a chisel.

    THE FOURTH OF JULY

No but scrapping the only potential deterent before having something to replace it is a really stupid move because anything has to be better than nothing. No but it would be nice to have the skill to sharpen a chiesel !!!!

    THE FOURTH OF JULY

We are already paying a potential workforce to do nothing so why not get them on job seekers to perform this work in exchange for benefits and it would be something on their CV, it would show a willingness to work.

    THE FOURTH OF JULY

Not bad for a new PM's first week in office, a loss of 270 million by scrapping Rwanda and with no new plan in place apart from recruiting a new border security chief has just sent a clear message across the channel that the new UK government welcomes all immigrants with open arms so maybe...

    Importing and customs

Yes a straight edge from fine tools, out of stock in the UK and the price was comparable until duties and postage was added which made it almost double the price. On a more recent issue, sending goods to Belgium the customs held them for over a week before they were released for postage...

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

The best safety approach is simplicity excluding the operator, once you start to add any complexity then you have issues with reliability and guaranteeing that the safety system will perform on demand. The best way to look at sawstop is that you forget it is fitted and treat the saw like...

    F22s again...

I really hate plastic pipe, I still prefer copper and in 22 & 15mm rather than small bore with the exception being under floor heating. I still use solder joints and a pipe bender and only use the pushfits for temporary connections or capping off. I take the view that a copper soldered...

    THE FOURTH OF JULY

Lots of extra houses need electricity and other services that are already struggling so more sewage into the enviroment and strain on local services. Thames water is £15 billion in debt and others in similar situations as they use a lot of energy which has gone sky high in cost and that is...

    Petrol Stations

Go by boat instead, at least it will keep floating with flat batteries unlike a plane that would be under the influence of gravity. Airships maybe, helium rather than hydrogen.
