Nope, the UK hasn’t been the world leader in CO2 emissions. If you take India, deforestation, cooking on open fires, burning coal and multiply it by its population at any point in history it dwarfs the UK.

@Cobbs Well, according to Forbes there are in 2023 169 billionaires in India and 171 in the UK, the big difference is that the Indian billionaires are in the majority Indian nationals, and ours aren't. Now, rather than giving £1.6 of our money, surely he could have given his wife’s family money...

I’m so delighted we have pledged £1.6 billion to India to assist with climate change. Such a good use of our national borrowings (remember we have a massive budget deficit) that the next generations will have to pay back. Yep, it’s brilliant we don’t have any domestic issues pressing that could...

Compressor advice for a total noob

I’d just say don’t skimp on anything, don’t buy no brand Chinese fittings. A lady who worked for me was helping her son a couple of years back (well thinking about it eight actually) with his compressor when a fitting let go. Let’s just say she now has only one working eye.

Since we were digging up the places and given that we are not connected to Mains sewage, it seemed appropriate to install a new sewage treatment plant. The house was originally served by a septic tank, and although we can use a septic tank, thinking ahead the way legislation is going, it’s...

The trench for the 3 phase supply is also dug, however the RED power cable conduit is delayed, it will be delivered next week rather than this. The trench is into the next door farmers field and I need to get it filled before he starts planting again.

Conduit and water pipe has been laid to the house. The conduit is future proofing and will enable a 3phase supply to be brought from the workshop to potentially air source heat pumps. I need power from the workshop as the house supply isn’t sufficient. and back filled, the inspector was making...

The build of the workshop seems rather fated! The piling should be finished in Monday, but due to the air hammer breaking down twice, that’s looking decidedly uncertain. Anyway, we have a few more piles in place just over half of them are inserted.

It might be perceived as semantics, but, if it’s a green agenda, and the imperative is to stop CO2 then there is so much low hanging fruit that could be harvested: but thats not what is happening, so why not? If armageddon is about yo hit Just Stop Oil have a point, yes a few billion won’t make...

Today, I think every country should be seeking the 3i’s of independence. Independence of food production, notreliant in any imports, able to feed its own population Independence of energy, be able to support the country’s energy needs without any imports. Independence of technology. Not in...

@Agent_zed It’s interesting your analogy with bread, if we dint have oil, which is the base for almost all fertiliser used today to enable us to feed the world, we will actual have immediate starvation for millions. Just stop oil completely miss the point that modern intensive agriculture that...

There are a number of scientist who don’t believe we are heading for a climate catastrophe and increased CO2 levels are a bad thing. I remember the Woody Allan film where he went t9 the future and found that smoking alcohol and butter were good for you…….I can also remember the big push that...

Thanks Cobbs, appreciate it. I agree, wisdom comes from knowing yoi could be wrong. I’m completely open to any view, I just hate to see the crowd surge and lurch in a particular direction without proper consideration that they may be going in the wrong direction. Everything I stated earlier is...

Fair comment, I was educated in the local comprehensive school at the time where the latest thinking was sod grammar and spelling and encourage the kids ideas. It’s been a huge problem for me throughout my life, I used to be extremely embarrassed about having to write stuff; as you highlight...

Nope, I’m not part of the jingoistic perspective of catastrophes. Anything we can do to move to renewables is a good thing. The CO2 science? Well, I’m not convinced having read around the subject.

Well, UWP here, I love Jacobs reasoned, well researched opinions, he always puts a smile on my face. All ‘science’ should be treated with a huge dollop of skepticism, just about every theory that ever existed has been proved wrong, and in need of a total rethink. The Catholic Church burned you...

The raft goes over the piles. A lot of the area it is made up ground / spoils from the house extension. It’s actually slightly cheaper than the stepped foundations.

The first metal tube is inserted into the ground. It has a bag of gravel dropped down it for the air hammer to hit against. Each tube is 1m long. As each tube descends into the ground the next is manually welded on to the last. They hammer until the tube reduces its decent into the ground to a...
