The 4th anual Macmillan cancer charity open workshop event

Well done again Richard and Kate for putting this event on and to such a good cause. I know Jim has been working hard on FB with the auction! Sorry I won't be able to attend, but hope all goes well. Cheers Peter

Did anybody go to makers central?

Hi Steve Pleased you liked the router tables, they are the ones I use in the school workshop although the JessEm TA was set up for the show. Either will fit a home made router table but the JessEm is more commonly used for that. I have just emailed JessEm and raised your point about the metric...

Did anybody go to makers central?

A very different type of show from the usual woodworking ones. A good range of crafts and mediums bringing in a real mixture of makers. I have never seen such a diverse group of visitors with far more kids, women and disabled and Europeans flown in to visit. Great to see such a wide variety of...

    Depth marks for drill bits

Coloured cable ties such a simple idea, beats the tape I would usually use. Thanks for sharing, Peter

Someone appreciates my limited carpentry skills

Nice one, the birds have nested in my students wall mounted smoking bin. Looks like I need to follow your good woodworking and make some boxes. Cheers Peter

Using insulation rolls in timber cavity workshop walls

I think slumping would be your main issue, but this could be overcome by fixing at the top with a batten and letting it hang. Cheers Peter

    bandsaw blade alignment

My first thoughts as well, it would only really matter when cutting joints like tenons but if it's only a very small amount out then leave it well alone. Cheers Peter

    Router **** Up

So easily done with these cutters, seen it a few times in my workshop. But when set up it's my favourite for producing drawer slips. Cheers Peter

    Hammer A3 26 : any owners here?

I have been very impressed with the Hammer Silent Power planer I have used a couple of times. Although I had a woodworker contact me from Germany asking my advice as his would stall if planing more than .5mm deep cut when thicknessing wide Ash. Any problems with you regular users? Cheers Peter

Midlands Woodworking Show Fri 23rd and Sat 24th (Newark)

I am advertised as a demonstrator as I have been there since the show started a few years ago. But sadly I have just had too many other work commitments (both school and the tool shop) to do the show justice this year, so I am just going for a few hours as a visitor to relax and enjoy the show...

    Veritas stock

The trouble is the Cites list gets very involved and the customs guys see some timbers on paper work and just stop shipments. Trying to resolve these issues can be very difficult even if the importer is in the right. We had a shipment of Micro Fence held up for 6 weeks in Rugby before Christmas...
