    Mortise and Tenon

I could make a mounting system for the Leigh to sit at a Horizontal angle, surely your joking?!. This is a big deciding factor in if I get the Leigh or the tilt head machine from Axminster?.

    Felling a London Plane

On the woodwork course I did the guy had a large pile of timber out side with just a metal roof on it, no sides or protection from the elements and it seemed fine. I have room to make an outdoor timber area, but have never known what's involved in allowing the timber to 'settle'.

    Felling a London Plane

Thanks Jason. The tree surgeons are just worried about getting rid of the timber so if I can get a 'Planker' on site the day we fell it then I could get all the timber delivered to my workshop and I could work out what to do with it. The only problem is and it's a big one if your Planking...

    Mortise and Tenon

I was wondering about this. If I have you correct here, what your saying is how would I go about putting a Tenon on a piece of timber 3 Meters in length. I was wondering if I would have to get myself and the machine 3 meters in the air or would I be able to angle the machine at bench height. Is...

    Mortise and Tenon

My current project is dictating a need for a morticer. And I'm looking to use it in the future making a signature piece, a full garden range with sofas, tables, canopy and planters. I like how easy it was to make the workbench and this has huge through tenons that I'm using in most of my...

    Felling a London Plane

Unfortunately this enormous London Plane needs to be felled and I'm just looking for ideas or someone with a Planking Machine??. I do a few days a week with the Tree Surgeons that share the Yard with my workshop and when they get large trees to fell I get first shout on the timber. Below is the...

    Design/Work shop Tour.

I've set up shop at the end of a cold old building that was being used as a storage area for mowers. About a mile from the house. Cheap rent and to think all these tools where scattered all around mates houses and garages. I've woken a few times on that sofa in the mornings after a late night...

It's a piece of Cherry, it's still drying out so will wait a while till I get it smooooooooth!!. Clamps!!. The pain in my side. Do I get the Bessey clamps and if so in what size, or do I go the Axminster cheap route and get loads but again in what size?. I've basically come up with the idea...

    Design/Work shop Tour.

Think the cleanliest comes from 11 years in the military and having Friday afternoon clean up hour. If I'm not out on a decking job, building an out house, felling a tree or putting a roof up then I'll be there. Find myself going there in the evenings and using it as my relaxing time, just me...

    Design/Work shop Tour.

Hello all Someone once asked for some pictures of my workshop so here goes. For you 'plymouth pirate'. It's not exactly a workshop, more a design and build area. I'm a carpenter by trade and find myself out and about on sites as well as spending time in my workshop. It's not a big place...

How much Discount at the shows.

Hi all I'm looking at spending another small fortune from Axminster & Classic Hand Tools and was wondering if I should wait for the Alexandra palace Show in March to get some discount?. I've never been to a Carpentry show and not sure if they have stock there and then and if any discount is...

    Waterproof Dominoes?

Interesting. I'm currently working on a garden Daybed for a client and have been looking at getting some Sipo Biscuits to replace the 'standard' issued ones. I also feel the argument for the 'standard' dominos being able to swell slightly would give a better seal and stronger joint. Has any one...

    Gluing Plastic LEGO onto MDF!!!.

Exactly what I will do. Ordered a Gray Baseplate today and will do some test glue pieces and see what happens. I'm not overly concerned by the weight of the pieces affecting things too much. There not all that heavy and I'll be using some M10 Plated Rawlbolts to hold it up. Thanks

    Gluing Plastic LEGO onto MDF!!!.

    30,000 4x2 at 14p each = £4,200. £420, that's better.

    Gluing Plastic LEGO onto MDF!!!.

Many thanks all. I knew I could rely on you guys to come up with the answer. The cost is going to be enormous but it's all relative. The boards will be about £140 plus the MDF and the Round bricks at 5p each will not be cheap. I have emailed LEGO and asked what they could do for me but as of...

Cheers mate. 24 Hrs late for me. Had to get the plumber out but luckily he had just installed it a few weeks ago and was very helpful and no charge.

    Saw Blade Stop using sensors

I do agree that it's not a substitute for common sense but there is always a time where that extra bit of safety is very much needed. I doubt many people on here could honestly say that there have not been times were they have done something and thought that was close, be that chiselling that...
