    Chisel sharpening on a budget...

Thanks for the replies, I could probably upgrade to a cbn wheel at a later date but I think it's off the table for now as they're quite pricey! Hmm, so charnwood ain't so good, how about this wee chap? ...

    Chisel sharpening on a budget...

Thanks guys, I did notice the low wattage. It's solely for woodturning tools and I use Japanese stones to get a polished razor edge on my plane blades and other chisels. I have just noticed the fine stone isn't that fine, however. They do an 8" one with a 100 grit white stone which I think I'll...

    Chisel sharpening on a budget...

Hi guys, I'm almost ready to start turning but just need a sharpening system. I've read loads of info and absolutely cannot afford any of the Sorby/Tormek systems, I'm thinking just a bench grinder with a white wheel and a jig. Specifically this one...

    Temperature & glue-ups

When it's super cold I glue up, leave it on my bench with a sheet draped over the whole thing all the way to the ground and an electric oil heater thing on low under the bench. I sometimes just put the sheet over the bench when I'm working and lift the sheet up where I'm working to stay warm...

Great advice guys, I think I'll maybe just buy one or two of the gouges to try my hand at spoon carving and leave the rest. D

    Pattern Makers Chisels?

Thanks, yes I'm contemplating buying them just to sell again. Money is tight, I'm self employed and need to do what I can in these times to keep the family fed... I'm a furniture maker and carpenter, I usually make one off commissions but I now find myself doing kitchen fitting and just about...

    Pattern Makers Chisels?

Good advice folks, they're asking £50 for the lot, is it a good deal? They all look to be Sheffield steel and good quality? But I'm by no means clued up on makes of chisels... If it was worth my time to buy them and resell/trade for turning chisels I'd be game for that. D

    Pattern Makers Chisels?

I've been offered some pattern makers chisels, are these any good for turning? I haven't heard of pattern makers chisels before, my gut says they're not suitable but thought I'd ask just to be sure :-) Thanks D

Sold Circular Saw Blades and Dado Set

Hi guys, clearing out the darkest recesses of the workshop and came across these. I've no idea of their worth, they're quite old but they've seen little to no use at all and edges are all sharp. Maybe at least one was for an old dewalt radial arm saw... Thought I'd see if anyone here wanted to...

    New chisels!!

Just wanted to say I now own woodturning chisels! Bought a set of four Stormont chisels off ebay so I can finally get into the lathe I've had sitting for two years... Haven't heard of Stormont chisels before, are they any good? I figured they looked the part and hope were at least worth the...

    Plunge/Tracksaw for cutting plywood

I use a festool ts55 with tracks and it's perfect on plywood. You could also try using masking tape along the cut line, both sides and edges. Press it down nice and hard and mark your line again on the tape.I do this when cross cutting narrower pieces on the mitre saw and it works every time.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Firstly sorry for the bad photo! I made these three sound diffuser/absorbers for a producers home studio. RWA45 acoustic insulation in the back of the panels covered with black cotton fabric. The vertical slats fan out and become ever so slightly concave as they reach the edges. The idea is any...

    Table Saw Blade Advice Needed...

I have decided to go with a decent 40T and a decent 80T (both CMT 285's) and will get a wee £20-30 24T for rough ripping. Will be spending about £130 for all three but I guess its worth it, its not like I ever buy new clothes anyway. I suppose I'll be upgrading the chop saw soon too. Will be...
