    Learning woodwork from youtube

It’s the algorithm YouTube and other social media uses that favours this material as it generates lots of angry comments / people correcting them. The algorithm doesn’t care if a comment is positive or negative it counts as engagement and bumps it up the listings. I miss the early days of...

    Biscuit jointer

    Another good solution thanks.

    Biscuit jointer

Yeah it’s a fair point, it would have to be the smaller biscuits to avoid side tear out. You’re right dowels would engage deeper than biscuits, but I can’t imagine it needing more than a biscuit. I’ll test out the joints on my prototype and report back.

    Biscuit jointer

I did try this in the past about 10 years ago and really didn’t get on with it. I found it difficult to line up accurately, plus I can’t do joints on the middle of the board for cabinets with that.

I’ve seen a Bosch pro come up on marketplace also for around that money. Would you recommend it?

    Selling advice

Hi, Hope this type of discussion isn’t against the rules, I’ll avoid any advertisement / links. I’ve set up a small cottage business selling some of my work. The idea is to offset the costs of my workshop, and maybe one day I could go part time from my job and draw some income from the shop...

    Biscuit jointer

Any particular model you’d go for? I’ve seen a ‘top’ for £130 that looks to have an adjustment knob for different sized biscuits.

    Biscuit jointer

Hi, I’m working on the crib for my son to be and am looking to pick up a biscuit jointer for forming the joints between the bars and horizontal sections. Originally I was planing on doing dowel joints for this but as a weekend woodworker, doing hundreds of these joints accurately might just...

RP Sabre 250; anyone have one

I made the mistake today of going to a woodturning shop and seeing the bandsaws in person. The 250 models both sabre and original looked like a toy compared to the BS300 and Sabre 300. I was a bit disappointed in the fence of the sabre 250, it was a bit flimsy and I expected better quality for...

Woodworking & craft shows and events…

Yeah, I’d be all for it if there were demonstrations and talks as part of it aimed at woodworkers, else £30 entry seems steep

    Cookie Slice

I made my wedding cake centrepiece stand by laminating lengths of walnut together, cutting it round, and adding turned feet underneath. It’s still perfectly flat, and we use it daily as a table centrepiece. The cookies / log slices my wife bought to do the other table centrepiece cupped...

Woodworking & craft shows and events…

Saw an advert come up for this, for those that have been in the past how much there is woodworking specific?

    Second hand machinery - rust

Cheers for that, this is what I was worried about, also whether I could get hold of spare parts if they needed replacing.

    Second hand machinery - rust

Hi, I’m looking at picking up a bandsaw for my workshop - sabre 250 looks to be a winner but I’d probably have to save up for it given the price, and could do with it now for a project I’m working on. I’ve turned my attention to eBay and noticed a few of the BS250 and other brands bidding...

Thanks, that looks good and easy to make

    £0:50p Egg Beater drill saved.

Great job, there’s something very satisfying about taking rusty cast iron and making it look brand new. Now you’ll be able to keep the workshop going even in a power cut! :ROFLMAO:

    Budget grinder tool rest

Hi, I’ve got the Axminster AW1502WSG bench grinder (the one with the single thickness coarse and double thickness fine grit). The thinner tool rest I scrapped as soon as I bought it and fitted a veritas tool rest and it’s pretty good at squaring and putting a new bevel on tools. The bigger...

RP Sabre 250; anyone have one

@akirk Glad to hear this, I’m interested in picking up one and was a bit worried with the performance of the original BS250 after viewing a YouTube review where the bloke was struggling to rip cut a 2x4… but looks like the beefier motor has got it covered. Working with this size do you wish you...

    Hi

Hi all, I’m a hobby woodworker keen to learn and chat with other likeminded people. Mainly I’m making small furniture and gifts, and working on my love-hate relationship with the lathe. Recently I’ve started taking small commissions to earn some beer money and help offset the cost of my...
