    Electric hand planers

I have a planer/jointer, planer/thicknesser to most of you that is a side by side type rather than an over under. A 6" jointer beside the 12" planer. One of the ways I work a wider board than the jointer can handle is to remove the porkchop guard and carefully run the board down the jointer...

    Stall set up/advice

Here you would get a card scanner as the use of cash has dropped off immensely since Covid. Most everyone is tapping bank cards or credit cards and many are using their phones or watches so they don't even carry plastic. Cash only and you loose sales. Might be different on your side of the pond...

    Ear defenders

As you prefer but when it comes to my health I'll err on the side of caution until I know otherwise. 😉 I have a few past work friends that are wearing hearing aids and having some loss now I don't want to subtract more from it. Muffs on no music, no big deal. Pete

    Ear defenders

I'll be happy to sit corrected if an expert comes on and says otherwise. I do know that if I put in foam ear plugs rated at 20Db I get a 20Db reduction of noise. If I wear ear protectors rated at 31Db I get a reduction of 31DB. If I use both at the same time I will only get a reduction of 36Db...

    Ear defenders

Something to keep in mind when using ear buds inside ear muffs. The muffs drop the noise to levels that protect your hearing and then you add the sound from the buds on top. It isn't the same as using the buds in a quiet room. The muffs drop a particular shop noise say 100 Db by say 29Db to 71Db...

    Looking for CamVac advice

Just curious if the CamVac you have is 110V or 220V? If the difference isn't reflected in higher amperage then it might be in effect underpowered to our British cousins. Pete

    Which RO sander vibrates less?

Thanks for the input gents. I went to LV and bought the Mirka electric Deros 6" pad with 2.5mm orbit. I also picked up the 14' vacuum hose. Happily the large end fits into the ClearVue CV6 cyclone and the shop vac. Maybe someday I will spring for their vacuum too. I picked it because it has the...

    Ear defenders

I wear and have been wearing Peltor Optime 105 or the predecessors for a couple dozen years. They have always been over the head type but I'd like to get a behind the head version for use with face shields and respirators. Good protection isn't cheap but cost a lot less than hearing aids. Next...

    Ducting system questions?

Static explosions in home systems don't happen. Too small to make a spark big and hot enough, plus you need to generate way more dust than a small shop can produce to get to explosion levels. You are more likely to have a fire from cutting metal, picking some up and hitting the impeller or dull...

    Ducting system questions?

Claims of flow by most sellers are roughly double what you will get in a system. They test with just the impeller, no ducts or filters, in the centre of the airstream where it is highest. Duct sizes limit the flow. 4" being roughly 450 CFM max, 5" being roughly 800 CFM and 6" being roughly 1250...

    Which RO sander vibrates less?

If I use my 4 stroke Makita string trimmer without Impacto Air Gloves (best anti-vibration glove I have found) I get tingling in less than 10 minutes. With the gloves, about an hour. With my industrial Dynabrade 6" RO air sander with roughly a 5mm orbit it is about the same. They even tingle...

    Which RO sander vibrates less?

I'm about to pull the plug and buy a 6"/150mm electric RO sander. I get tingly fingers even with anti-vibration gloves so would like to know which sanders vibrate less? Festool or Mirka? Would those of you who have used both please comment? Thanks Pete

    Outhouse Project

Polycarbonate used in green houses will make a nice roof for a outdoor working area that won't block any light going into the shop and it would keep your door dry too. A couple examples below but you should be able to source local stuff...

    Outhouse Project

Brick houses are a rarity here but to my untrained eye there looks to be a concrete lintel above the door. Does it run across the windows too or is the end of it sitting on that stack of brick bits between the door and window? If a one piece lintel could the crumbling bricks be removed entirely...
