    Decline in Valued Contributors???

Adding to what Mike said two posts up. The individual was not only deleting here he was giving instructions on another forum how to go about deleting content so more would do the same. I was on another small forum over a decade ago where a member had a thread going on segmenting and was...

    Rust Remover for Tool Restoration

Rule of thumb is to never de-rust assemblies especially ones with dissimilar metals. There will always be some left between the mating surfaces that may corrode if and when they get moisture in them again. Pete

How To Deal With Split Blanks?

You can inlay butterflies along the crack to repair it and add a decorative touch too. Make your own templates etc or buy a ready made system. https://bigislandengraving.com/butterfly-inlay-repair-system/ Some of the local club members have been using them with success. Pete

Info on light levels. Illuminance - Recommended Light Level My shop is just under 60 square metres and roughly square. 4 rows of 4,000 lumen battens for a total of 16 fixtures/64,000 lumens, 6,000K (white leaning a little towards blue to some people). Bought direct from China through Alibaba...

    Rust Remover for Tool Restoration

You have a product, Restore made in England, that is mixed with water and works much like Evapo-Rust. https://www.shieldtechnology.co.uk/restore-rust-remover-250ml-i26.htm Anyone tried it? Pete

    Festool KS60 to 100mm extractor

In your instance I can see the value. My house was built during 2016 and is double walled, making for about 11"/280mm of fibreglass batt insulation in the walls. It was blower door tested at about 1 1/4 air changes per hour. There is a heat recovery ventilator to keep the air fresh and dry. All...

    Festool KS60 to 100mm extractor

My interest in infrared dust pictures doesn't extend to those kind of prices. When the time comes I'll put money into a pitot static or hot wire anemometer. :) Pete

Anybody seen this in an offcut of Oak

Many years ago a tiny UFO crashed into the tree. The tree grew around the little spaceship. Pete

    Rust on machine tables

Get a small rod heater (GoldenRod is one brand) and put it in the machine with a canvas tarp, no plastic, or blanket over the machine. It will stay warm enough to keep water from condensing on it. Pete

    New planer questions

Call Busy Bee and talk to them. They may tell you it is within tolerance or might whistle a replacement to you right away. How is the straitness/twist along the length? Pull it off and lay it on the table to see how out of flat it is. Add that info into the conversation when you call them. If...

    Festool KS60 to 100mm extractor

Darn you Mike! Now you have me wondering how much an infrared camera costs. Nope, I'm not going down that rabbit hole. I'm not going down that rabbit hole. I'm not going down that rabbit hole......hmmm, maybe. Pete

    Festool KS60 to 100mm extractor

My suggestion is to use the shop vac on the saw's port and an enclosure behind the saw using the 100mm from the duct collector to catch the stray fine dust that gets out. In other words, both. Pete

    paraffin Heater

Petroleum based fuels and dinosaur flatulence are made of hydrocarbons. Molecules of hydrogen and carbon. When you burn them you get carbon dioxide (if burned clean) and water. The amount of water will vary with the makeup of the molecule. One of the reasons you see water drops dribbling out car...

    Blocking-up Summerhouse French Doors

I would make a shelf unit or a couple narrower ones, possibly on castors and place it in front of the doors and call it done. If needed the shelf units can be rolled out of the way to open the doors. If the back of the shelf unit is cross braced with boards rather than a solid sheet back then...

    Buffing kits

The three wheel Beall Buffing system on the shaft that fits the lathe says to buff at about 1800rpm. I often buff at 1200rpm. It has the effect of making the wheels softer. Because the long shaft is held by the centre in the tailstock going much over 1800 runs the risk of the shaft popping out...

    Veneer vacuum press advice

IF you have a good bag that doesn't leak you can put a quarter turn ball valve between the bag and compressor. When you reach as high a vacuum as it can reach you close the valve and turn off the compressor. If there are leaks the compressor may run continuously. Not good for the compressor...

    Workshop flooring

1" thick OSB, unfinished, 2x10 joists on 1' centres. The shop is above the garage and has a couple inches of spray foam under the floor, not for heat but to seal out car exhaust. The place was built in 2016 and someday I would like to lay a hardwood floor or apply an epoxy finish. No hurry...

    paraffin Heater

So if one was proven to be the cause of a fire and toasted the house your insurance would be void like here and you get nothing? Pete Adding that even a CSA approved wood stove installed in a house without an installation inspection voids the insurance.
