Which long drill bit for wooden table lamp?

I have seen in the past tool posts that were set up to take a lamp auger through them while holding the end of the wood much like a hollow tailstock would. Might be possible to make one from a plumbing or hydraulic Tee fitting. Pete

Why is this dangerous kit being advertised on here?

Just because you had a flu shot doesn't mean you won't get it. If the strain of virus isn't the ones they guessed would be needed and made the vaccine for, you can still get it. Keep drinking the water so you don't get dehydrated. Suck it up buttercup and get better. Pete

    Questionable circular saw adaptation

It is a tool for limited uses. Timber frame building and ship building with some use to stick framed house building when cutting stacks of lumber the same length or to have notches in the same location. Adam it can be pushed around to make large radius curves but not tightly detailed cuts on the...

Using foil-backed Insulation Board as sacrificial board while cutting Plywood

I use 1x3s on a couple 2x4s. You can always kiss the surface of the 1x3s in a thicknesser to fit. I've used mine on the ground and more often on top of a couple folding saw horses. I don't like getting on my knees if I don't have to. Ground has gotten a lot further away since I was a kid. I'll...

    Dust Extractor advice needed.

If you look at the Loren Cookbook page 54 link I put up above you can see that a pair of 45º elbows can have more drag than a single 90º elbow if it has a large enough radius. See what you have for elbows before changing them for the pair of 45ºs. The radius is measured along the middle of the...

    Dust Extractor advice needed.

My ears are burning. Hmmm. 🤔 Your 6 elbows assuming a 1R bend and smooth adds about the equivalent of 45ish more metres for a total of 60 metres. Or using the calculator below using 425 CFM (optomistic) for your DC and what a 100mm duct can flow, 49 feet of PVC duct, and the 6 elbows the...

Drawers - how do you rabbet yours?

A few with the table saw. One cut vertical and the other horizontal. Lots, I would use a dado blade in the table saw. 😱 🤫 Pete

    Hand Tool Wall Cabinet

You are seeing this from a beginners perspective in that you need to buy the wood for this project. I have many years of accumulated wood leftover from bigger pieces so if I were going to make it I would be selecting from several different species to use them up. Walnut, Maple including...

    Veneering question

I would be tempted to make the horizontals of solid wood and carve the end corners into them with the intention of not using a mitre joint in the corner. Then the verticals with their crossgrain veneer would be relatively easy. 🙄 The crossgrain verticals being butt joined to the horizontal...

Italian bandsaw near Wales, might be worth a punt

I suppose your numbers are correct in your circumstance and the way you want it to end up. For me it would be lower here. Bandsaw. Would offer £150 max and they would take it. Transport. I would go and get it and put it in the back of my truck or on the trailer. The £120 would get me a butt...

How do I remove the chuck on my Sealy GDM-50A/5/B pillar drill drill?

eBay has them for half as much. Might not be as good but probably good enough. Pete

Italian bandsaw near Wales, might be worth a punt

She might need some work but in the end if nothing repairable/replaceable is broken it would be a great machine for someone not intimidated by the overhaul. A touch too far away for me though. Pete

    Hello from Canada

Welcome to the forum Andy. I saw your post in the Canadian Woodworker looking for the parts and coming here is a good idea. You will have to post a number of times, it's in the rules, before being able to do it here. These people are a helpful bunch. Here like the Canadian site has a member...

Multico owners - would you like helical cutters?

Which nice chaps in Canada? There is more than one. If Sheartak my understanding is that they didn't charge more for the first one, but I have been known to be wrong. If the Multico machines are sold under different paint and names then they may have it already under another name. Pete

Drill press for cutting 16mm holes

galvernisednuts since you don't as yet have the drill press perhaps consider getting a mill drill right off the bat. They don't take up much more room than the pillar drill and already have the X/Y table. They also have better spindle runout specs and tool holding because of the draw bar. If you...
