    Does the cut go clear through or is it a mortising cut. Mikes right about using a spiral cut bit. Unfortunately 1/4 inch spirals are not notoriously strong especially on deep cuts. If it was mine I would run a cut on the table saw down the middle about 15/16 deep first. YOU can plunge cut it...
