Wanting to build a door for a glorified shed with a bit of substance

@Glitch just looked at your door again on the big screen of my 'pooter rather than the phone and noticed the eccenticity of those braces - the way that they are rebated into the ledges. Do you know why they were done like that? Seems like quite a bit of extra work so must be a pretty compelling...

Wanting to build a door for a glorified shed with a bit of substance

That's pretty much my construction EXCEPT insulation. As it's a shed, I was thinking of forgoing insulation not only to keep costs lower but also because insulation would create a temp differential which introduces the threat of condensation. @GuitardoctorW7 Did you include a vapour barrier...

How can I put a bullnose on the edge of this oak tread?

In woodwork class, my teacher told me never to put a plane down on its base to avoid blunting the edge. I've been lying them down like it's some kind of religion for a few decades. Clearly not as important as I was led to believe.

How can I put a bullnose on the edge of this oak tread?

He's like some Manc samuari. Could cut clean through a man's leg with a single swipe of that plane. Certainly no fear of hacking out a chunk at the end of each pass.

How can I put a bullnose on the edge of this oak tread?

Now, where did I put that plane? Oh yes, EVERYWHERE!!

Wanting to build a door for a glorified shed with a bit of substance

No - don't want secret door. Aiming for the look of that shed in the first post and it has the door panels vertical, and on closer inspection it appears that they have gone with square edges butting up to each other. Maybe that is a ledge and brace door? I'm lining the walls inside the shed...

Wanting to build a door for a glorified shed with a bit of substance

This sounds interesting. So batten a second hand front door with 12mm battens, and then fix the larch to the battens? Would I have to do the battens vertical to allow water ingress/condensation to run down? I am getting the larch cut at a sawmill, so can specify how the planks are cut. I want...

Wanting to build a door for a glorified shed with a bit of substance

Hi all, Please can you share some ideas of how to build a door for my small shed/garden building. The door will be clad in larch and I want it to feel a bit substantial - kind of like a normal door rather than a shed door. The sides and back of the building will be clad in bog standard treated...

How can I put a bullnose on the edge of this oak tread?

Thank you all for your help. I'll investigate the router bits that I've got. But it's also a reminder that it's probably about time I got out the diamond stones to sharpen that block plane anyway. Must admit that I'm a bit wary of routing the fronts. If I cock up the sides its not the end of...

How can I put a bullnose on the edge of this oak tread?

Ah! Planing, that makes sense. I have a block plane and a parkside planer. Do you think I could get away with either of those, or is it time to invest in a plane?

How can I put a bullnose on the edge of this oak tread?

Hi all, I've made a staircase narrower. The treads used to go wall to wall, so had flat cut ends. Now I'm going to cut them narrower I want the sides to have a bull nose to match the front. The treads are oak. They aren't fitted to the stairs at the moment, so no issues with limited access. I...

How can I revive this old french bed frame?

Yes, I do want to be careful. My guess is that it's not an item of particular value. But nonetheless, it is an older piece of furniture and so I would like to make it look nice (not new) but to do it in a consciencious way. From my elementary understanding, the general approach to restoration...

How can I revive this old french bed frame?

Right - I've bought all ingredients for the revivers and elixir's mentioned above. In the meantime, I tried some meths on an inconspicuous part. It certainly turned the kitchen paper brown, but I wasn't sure if that was grime/stain/finish. I wasn't sure what I should be expecting, but it didn't...

How can I revive this old french bed frame?

This is hugely helpful. Thank you. For the ammonia, can I just use what is sold as 'household ammonia'?

How can I revive this old french bed frame?

Is there a way that I can tell what the finish is? Or would you folk be able to tell if I took the photo in a particular way/light?

How can I revive this old french bed frame?

I do have meths but not linseed oil ammonia. Would be happy to make my own reviver though if linseed oil is readily available - feels more authentic! I'm confused about when linseed oil is appropriate though because this post cautions against the darkening effect of linseed oil in a reviver mix...

How can I revive this old french bed frame?

Hi all, I'd like to revive an old french bed frame and would be grateful for advice on how to do so sympathetically. Having read other threads here I recognise that the best advice when it comes to conservation/restoration is to leave it to the professionals, but I do not have the budget for...

Wooden unit in a bathroom - possible or mad?

Thanks @TheTiddles . Well an MDF splashback is certainly a great test! Lots of questions for you: How did you seal or join the edges? Or did you veneer the edges too? Did you use water resistant MDF? Did you veneer it yourself, or just buy a standard veneered board? What's your choice of hard...

Wooden unit in a bathroom - possible or mad?

I've been doing some more reading about materials. It sounds like MFC has come on some way from MFI in the '80s. Could I create a high-end look with that? One concern is that edges would be banded with that 2mm ABS edging and you can see the solid pastic colour on the radius. What about...

Wooden unit in a bathroom - possible or mad?

Thanks @Oddbod70 - what was the veneer, natural/melamine? And did you do anything special to protect the ends of the MDF - did you use iron-on tape, or did you joint it somehow into another piece? Edit: And what's your choice of 2-part lacquer?
