I am looking to sell my BS400 Bandsaw and PT107 Planer/Thicknesser. Both have had light hobby use and are in excellent condition. Both also come with wheel kits. There are a few spare bandsaw blades included in the sale. £1,500 for both units. Collection only from West Sussex.

Yes, did this and it proved the motor was fine but didn't resolve the switching issue. I've posted an update/resolution below

Got waylayed with my real job but did finally manage to get a "proper" electrician to looks at this. 84years old, been working on industrial machines all his life. I'll post the final outcome below but thanks for your inputs

Interesting. I'll give that a try. The bandsaw has only had light use so I agree its seems very unlikely its a total motor failure, plus there were no symptoms such as performance drop or burning smell. Excuse my electrical ignorance but what role does the capacitor have in the starting process...
