hi i fell lucky at the weekend a picked up a very very nice stanley in excellent condition. the only problem is the rear handle has been replaced with one of the modern stanley number 2 plastic kit handles which does not fit properly and is broken due to poor fitting.

could anyone point me in the right direction to get a a replacement wooden handle please

kind regards

jon

It's not hard to make your own (top tip - drill the hole before making angled cuts) and it would be nicer than this £2.43 offering from toolbank.com:

This handle whittling thing is not QUITE as easy as it looks....

It is such an iconic shape that if you get any angle even slightly wrong it looks crap...I found this out the hard way!

If your signature is not just modesty then I would suggest you keep looking for a basketcase plane to suit at your bootfairs but with a nice rosewood handle intact and then recondition that one. The results can be quite nice..

If your signature is modesty...get the tools out mate!!! :D

Of course! Much better idea - you can see it's the right size as there is a front hole for the second screw.
