Absolutely beautiful!

I would love to build a bungalow in the middle of that.

So apart from trees what else does Westonbirt have?

Lovely photos. Thanks for sharing

I have spent many hours cutting down oversised & inappropriately planted trees from our garden. It is nice to see large trees growing in the right place.

Andy

Thanks for sharing that.
We had trees with green leaves a week ago. Heavy rain and a couple of gales - trees with no leaves. So endeth autumn (whatever that is).

Speaking as a fellow digital "shoot everything" merchant, I have a question.

Do you *keep* everything, or do you review and purge ruthlessly?

BugBear

I carry out a gentle purges as I go, but I admit to storing a fairly high percentage of later rejected shots (for display) on the basis that DVD storage is cheap.

1. On initial viewing; delete the accidental button presses and those clever shots against the sun etc. that didn't work.

The rest get transferred to HD for DVD BU as bulk transfer from card.

2. On batch transfer/sorting; cull the duplicates, exposure brackets & obvious poor composition.

The results of that, including any manipulated images are again committed to DVD.

Having in a past life gone through a phase of obsessive photographic interpretation and sole searching looking for the perfect composition etc. alongside a collection of family snaps. I find several decades on it's the casual family snaps or the obscure often poor composition images that have been transferred warts and all to digital that now get pulled out of the archives for reference, memories being more important than perfection of image.

Do you still think its worth a visit this week?
Certainly, the strong winds have abated and there were still a good many specimens still to reach their full turn colours.

If you are at liberty to pick your day obviously try for sunshine but don't get too put off by showers, some of the most dramatic effects appear between cloud movements.
The bulk of the colour shots were taken as we progressed into Silk Wood from the Garden Centre gate end and back through the acer plantations.

The views of the silk wood from the banks just below the visitor centre provided some dramatic native colour blends.

Even in the winter months we find some very dramatic vistas as the conifers vie with the deciduous in colour casts/changes, we are fortunate to live within 15-20 min drive and although surrounded by woodland ourselves visit westonbirt at least once a month.
