Saw an article in the Woodturner magazine by Nick Arnull and thought that I would have a go, This one is going in the bin the wood is terrible but it did me for the test of the colouring.
The only colours I had are red, black, white and flesh (all used on my santa carving that I done) except for one point on the colouring top left I am pretty pleased with the outcome. Now all I need to do is buy some more colours.

I want too do more

Nice Dal. Check out Mark Raby's website. He's a finish specialist that demo'd at our turning club and he sells little packs of spirit dyes with small enough sizes and range to do a good few turnings without breaking the bank. I bought some a while ago and they work well.

I have a set of spirit stains will also be experimenting with them soon. I spoke to Mark at the show.

I like that, what sort of colours were they?

The ones I used are acrylic paints from the art shop and applied with scrunched up paper towel after a coat of white as a base coat then I applied the flesh colour followed by red the finally the black, making sure that once I put paint onto the paper towel to take most of it off before applying to the rim
