I've just finished a mammoth oak table build. The main table top is 2 metres by 1 metre with breadboards, plus 2 500mm extensions both of which had breadboard ends so 6 in total.... And all done in 55mm thick oak my poor back :'(
The mortises were routed out with a deep mortising cutter, the cutter was too long for my router so I had to put a false base on it.
I cut the tenon shoulders using my recently acquired ts55 which with very careful marking out worked beautifully. The rest was done with hand tools.
After drilling the holes through the mortises, these were used to mark the tenons and then the holes offset by about 2mm for the draw boring. Centre tenon glued, outside tenons fitted dry and holes elongated to allow for movement.
This is one of the extensions with both bb ends fitted.
Very pleased with the results considering this was the first time I've attempted this.
