Have not posted something for a while
Was trying to get my eye back in after a while away from the lathe
mostly sycamore but some beech, acrylic and ebonising lacquer

Very nice indeed Like the shape and the concept of the art work. You did get a but wavey on the bottom which is a shame as you have put so much work into it.

I would call it a piece of art, not everything has to have a purpose like a bowl or box

My stock answer for people asking this at shows is "it is for enhancing your living environment"

What is a statue, picture etc for?

Perhaps I'm misunderstood, I understand that art doesn't need to have a purpose, I've just never seen anything like that before. (I asked what is it, not what's it for )

Thanks all for your kind comments
Woodmonkey- its just a hollow form.
The acrylic has a texture to it which I liked as well in the piece.

5 1/2 inch in diameter and. 9 1/2 inch total height

How did you get the acrylic in there, was it glued up as a blank to begin with or is it somehow inlaid afterwards?

Very elegant in profile, great attention to detail in the finishing of the body and considerable care in execution of the finial.

Bit of a case of transport or dust it at your peril look about it though.

Usually pack finials by wrapping in cotton wool and sliding into a cardboard tube, dust is another matter altogether CHJ

Woodmonkey- I used acrylic paint
