    Helping at a repair cafe

My friend repaired white goods and domestic electrical gear - he told me Dysons paid half his wages. :)

Kettles? I think the last one I bought a few years ago was about £6. The last element I replaced, probably the best part of thirty years ago was iirc about £7.

    Helping at a repair cafe

But charities paying more rent then inflates the market artificially? I suspect in many circumstances they're paying very little in today's town/city centres - no one wants the premises and as long as someone is in them the owner doesn't have to pay council taxes. The same goes for churches in...

Proof? Have you read no history? I'm a male sexist? OK, her current partner is as bad (worse?), if that evens it up. If she was Mary from the local comp/Tesco checkout she'd have been branded a slapper long ago and no one would turn a hair. I'm not going to argue the case any longer- I'm right.

    Helping at a repair cafe

I suspect most of the stuff that comes the way of repair cafes and mens sheds comes from people who don't have endless funds for repair work or else isn't economically repairable. I doubt much of it would affect professional trades/craftsmen. If a few minutes of a competent person's time saves...

Exciting News! The Melbourne Tool Company has landed

    Use of Bees wax.

It's not a good finish for anything that's handled or even touched, it's too soft. It looks lovely especially on oak but it's better mixed with another wax - microcrystalline or carnauba. I tend now to use mc/carnauba and leave the beeswax out.

    Myford ML8

https://www.beaufortink.co.uk/toolpost-versachuck-wood-lathe-chucks are good, especially if you think you might upgrade at some stage. (I suspect this is what James meant to link to.) Versachuck slides/carriers accept both Versachuck and Axminster jaws, which widens the scope for buying...

Choosing the most appropriate grinder for this job

Fix that grinder down and fix a block of wood in front of it, devising a way of clamping a devil stone to block so it just touches the wheel. Switch it on and if you just a hear the devil stone touch the wheel once every revolution, leave it run until there's no noise. Adjust the devil stone...

Is a full size guide rail worth it?

I use 1000mm Stabila level to line up two 1400mm rails. I also have the rails drilled and countersunk so I can screw the rails down - I did this because I had some heavy structural timber to rip and the accuracy was more important than the screw holes it left.
